The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Building(HKFYG Building) is a 28-storey social service complexconveniently located next to the Quarry Bay MTR Station,and on Pak Fuk Road, behind Model Lane. Equipped withstate-of-the-art facilities and amenities, the HKFYGBuilding provides a compact, efficient and user-friendlyenvironment to everyone.

The HKFYG Building has adopted the strictest standardsof energy conservation, without compromising servicequality and safety. Not just observing governmentalregulations, but being sensitive to the needs of thedisabled, the HKFYG Building is a wheelchair-friendlypremises.

Located in the HKFYG Building are both the Head Officeand a number of service units of the Federation, as wellas the head offices of other 9 social service agencies andorganisations. Also found in the building are two multi-function halls, a multi-media youth and children’s learningcentre, a 434-seat auditorium, a 100-seat theatre andmeeting rooms of various sizes. These amenities ensurethat the HKFYG Building not only serves the immediatecommunity of North Point, but the entire city of HongKong.

The HKFYG Building has two main entrances; the mostfrequently used entrance for pedestrians is next to Exit Cof the Quarry Bay MTR Station. The ride from the Central/Hong Kong MTR Station to Quarry Bay is only 15 minutes.The building is approximately 40 minutes away from theHong Kong International Airport. The other main entranceis located on 21 Pak Fuk Road, which provides a drop-offpoint for coaches and cars.

Served by numbers of bus lines, the HKFYG Building isalso easily accessible by other modes of transportation.

Youth Research Centre

There are issues that occur in our everyday world, whereyoung people, like almost everyone, have an opinion!The Youth Research Centre has been conducting in-depthresearch and opinion polls every year to reflect howyoung people think and feel on many topical issues.

Results are published and publicised to enable the publicgaining a better understanding about young people. Thepublications also allow the community to acquire a betterunderstanding of how young people think and feel.

Youth Counselling Centre

A pioneer in providing immediate counselling servicesto young people, Youthline is the first-of-its-kind serviceby offering professional support through the telephone.Counsellors are professionally trained social workers andoffer callers the highest privacy in sharing whateverconcerns they might have.

In addition to the telephone, Youthline also provides web-based counselling services.

Youth Exchange Unit

“Learn when you’re aboard” – that is the motto behindthe HKFYG Youth Exchange programmes. Active since1980, Youth Exchange has sent Hong Kong youngstersaround the world, while also welcoming many youngpeople to Hong Kong. Multi-function Hall II 8/FThe HKFYG Meeting Room, located on 8/F, has thecapacity to house an audience of 72, and is an ideallocation to hold social functions and activities.

The Multi-function Hall II is a 1,400 square feet premises,with a staircase connected to the Main Entrance on 7/F. Itis possible to incorporate the space of the HKFYG MeetingRoom, thereby expanding the total area of 2,110 squarefeet. The HKFYG Auditorium is a multi-purpose 434-seatauditorium, equipped with state-of-the-art multi-mediainfrastructure. It is fully-equipped with digital audio-visualcontrol facilities and a dedicated control room, withacoustic walls and ceiling. This makes it a perfect locationeither for speeches or lectures, as well as for concertsand even film premieres. The HKFYG Auditorium can alsoaccommodate live broadcasts to the HKFYG Theatre on7/F and to the Multi-function Hall II on 8/F. Meeting rooms on 10/F, covert either into one single roomof 2,430 square feet, with a maximum capacity of 200, orcan be divided into three separate rooms with a capacityof between 50 to 75. All the meeting rooms are equippedwith LCD computer projectors and other audio-visualfacilities.

Four meeting rooms are located on 19/F. One has themaximum capacity of 12 persons, while the other threecan accommodate up to 16 persons.

Caring for Youth • Caring for our Future

The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) hasgrown into one of the territory’s largest non-profit, youthwork organisations since it was established in 1960. Itprovides opportunities and facilities for the social,educational, cultural and physical development of youngpeople. Income is from government subvention, grantsfrom the Community Chest of Hong Kong, the Hong KongJockey Club Charities Trust, other trust funds, programmefees, and both private and corporate donations.

HKFYG is dedicated to setting up a youth membershipnetwork and providing quality services that solve youngpeople’s problems and promote healthy all-rounddevelopment. Over 60 service units organise more than10,000 activities annually. Attendance at programmesnow stands at 5 million a year. We devote our resourcesand energy to ten core services, all designed to meetyoung people’s fast-changing needs.

Youth EmploymentHKFYG promotes the concept of “life banking” forcareers and employment. The Youth EmploymentNetwork (YEN) organises career expos and is setting upyouth social enterprises. Youth Business Hong Kong, aprogramme for young entrepreneurs, provides them withfinancial support and mentorship.

Leadership TrainingLeadership 21 has trained more than 20,000 students,giving them skills and techniques essential for youngleaders. The Hong Kong 200 Leadership Project gives 200local youth leaders intensive training in Hong Kong andon the mainland every year, enhancing their sense ofsocial responsibility and reinforcing their willingness togive back to the community.

Volunteer ServicesThe Youth Volunteer Network (VNET) is the territory’sbiggest for young people. Well over 100,000 registeredmembers provide more than half a million voluntaryservice hours per year. Each April, VNET organises serviceprojects in Hong Kong to support the Global Youth ServiceDay and its year-round Heart to Heart Project bringsstudents and corporate volunteers together to dosponsored community service for the needy.

Services for Youth at RiskThe outreach social work teams look for vulnerable youthand the Youth Support Scheme provides counselling forthose who have been cautioned under the PoliceSuperintendent’s Discretionary Scheme. Otherprogrammes cater for the needs of teens with personal,emotional, family, academic, employment, drug andgambling problems, providing them with impetus andopportunities to become re-integrated and involved.

CounsellingWe are committed to providing appropriate one-to-one,hotline and web-based counselling. We have school-based social workers at secondary and primary schoolswhile Youthline 2777 8899 gives telephone and internetcounselling whenever it is most needed by the youngpeople who get in touch.

Education ServicesWe have two kindergartens, a primary school and asecondary school where dedicated teachers and astimulating learning environment provide students witha rounded education that allows every child to excel. TheContinuous Learning Centre encourages lifelongeducation and provides young people with a continuouslearning platform outside formal education.

Services for ParentsWe are dedicated to helping parents create harmonious,understanding relationships with their children. We teachcommunication skills and offer support when it is needed.If communication breaks down or conflict occurs, we canstep in with mediation.

Youth ExchangeInternational and regional schemes, competitions andexchange programmes are organised annually. Theyinclude the Hong Kong Odyssey of the Mind Programme,the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition, thecreativity education programme LEAD (Learning throughEngineering, Art and Design) and the Hong Kong YoungAmbassador Scheme. All of them broaden horizons andencourage youngsters to be creative and fulfill theirpotential. Youth study tours to the mainland are alsoorganised to promote national education among youngpeople.

e-Servicesu21.hk provides an immense amount of diverseinformation for young people through many channelsand web pages covering jobs, study, leisure andvolunteering, to name but a few. It links us to over 250,000members with the e-newsletters, yxpress and teenspressand a host of interactive, multi-media features.

Leisure, Cultural and Sports ServicesHKFYG provides a wide-range of leisure, sports andcultural activities for youth, some of which take place atits four camps and outdoor activities centres. TheFederation’s choir, The Hong Kong Melody Makers, anddance troupe, Hong Kong Youth Dance, cultivate youngtalent in the performing arts.

HKFYG provides support and access to services throughits Youth S.P.O.Ts and the Youth Research Centre.

Youth S.P.O.TsThe Federation has 22 Youth S.P.O.Ts, spreading over theterritory. They provide space and many opportunities foryoung people to develop. With modern design and thelatest facilities, their services are geared specifically tomeet the needs of the young, helping them grow andmature as rounded individuals.

Youth Research CentreThe Federation has a well established research centre,which runs polls and studies, producing high qualityreports on topical issues. These are published as theYouth Poll Series, Youth Study Series, Beijing-Guangzhou-Shanghai-Hong Kong Comparative YouthStudies, the Journal of Youth Studies, the Hong KongYouth Trends Series and the Comparative Study Serieson Youth Development. It is hoped that these researchprojects will help facilitate a better understanding of theyouth issues in the community and advocate newinitiatives for youth services and policies.
