Fellowships (Fs): Awards for graduate students working on a doctoral degree and researchers who have just earned their doctorates (postdocs). Opportunities in basic and clinical research. Reviewed for training impact (T) or potential (F); institutional commitment, mentoring, and training record. Goal: The overall goal of the NIH Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) program is to help ensure that a diverse pool of highly trained scientists is available in appropriate scientific disciplines to address the Nation's biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research needs. Core Review Criteria: 1. Fellowship Applicant Academic record and training, publications, etc. 2. Sponsors, Collaborators, and Consultants 3. Research Training Plan 4. Training Potential 5. Institutional Environment & Commitment to Training Additional Review Consideration: 1. Training in the Responsible Conduct of Research Overview: Awarded to Predoctoral or Postdoctoral fellows who are working with mentors. Training can be at domestic or foreign institutions. Opportunities in basic and/or clinical research. Open to any scientific area within the NIH scientific mission. PhDs and MD/PhDs receive most of the awards. F-Kiosk: Purpose: F30 (since 1989): Supports up to 6 years of combined MD/PhD training. F31 (since 1974): Supports up to 5 years of PhD (or equivalent) training during dissertation research. Diversity F31 (since 2006): Combined Minority and Disability programs, and added Disadvantaged. Promising doctoral candidates who will be performing dissertation research. Fellows may not change the scope, move fellowship, or change mentor without prior NIH approval. Purpose: F32 (since 1974): Support up to 3 years of postdoctoral research training. Promising fellows with the potential to become productive, independent investigators in scientific health- related research fields relevant to the missions of NIH Institutes & Centers. Awardees incur one year of payback. Repay the 1st year by staying in research a 2nd year Fellows may not change the scope, move fellowship, or switch mentor without prior NIH approval.
