Can you take it off?” Yes, after an exam, the wire is about three inches long with a single barb worked into the skin. We sedate the cat, cut the skin and wire away, suture the area, give antibiotics and send it on its merry way. Farms and ranches can have many hazards but this was a first like this with cats in my life time. I have seen deer, calves, and a raccoon hung on a barbed wire fence. It can happen. “Doc, my cat got hung on a barbed wire fence. I went to town to get help and they cut the fence. Now, there is this wire in the skin. Can you take it off?”

Yes, after an exam, the wire is about three inches long with a single barb worked into the skin. We sedate the cat, cut the skin and wire away, suture the area, give antibiotics and send it on its merry way.

Farms and ranches can have many hazards but this was a fi rst like this with cats in my life time. I have seen deer, calves, and a raccoon hung on a barbed wire fence. It can happen.
