According to Jeremy Harmer: Listening is connected to pronounciation (pitch, stress and intonation )

The more a student hear English spoken, the more they absorve the features of connected speech.

«Successful spoken communication

depends on the ability to spoke and the way

we listen» (Harmer.J 2007)

According to Scrivener :

Students need to listen a tape 3 or 4 times.

If a student complete a task in the first time, it was not challenging. It is more important the process than the correct answers of the task.

“Right answers are not the main goal but the listening itself.”

Students need to be challenged and stimulated.

DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES TO HELP STUDENTS LISTEN BETTER

Keep the recording short.

Play the type as sufficient number of times.

Let students discuss their answers together.

Don´t immediately acknowledge correct answers with words or facial expressions.

Don´t be led by one strong student.

Play some parts again and again until it´s clear.

Give help if they are completely stuck.

Don´t change the task halfway.

Don´t let them lose heart. It should be difficult but achievable.
