You don’t need a licence to: Perform music live in class or in the course of teaching Play music from a recording or on the soundtrack of a

film in class or in the course of teaching Copy a musical work or sound recording by hand (not

by photocopier or computer etc) in the course of teaching or being taught or setting or taking an exam, provided you acknowledge the copyright owners and provided the copying is limited and not done for a commercial purpose

You do need a licence to do any of these things using any electronic equipment or reprographic device: Copy sheet music or lyrics Make copies of sound recordings Make sound recordings of copyright music Copy copyright music into a film
