What We Can Do for YOUR Students Provide information literacy instruction to help them build their research skills Help them learn to evaluate resources and understand why peer-reviewed and scholarly are important words in the research process Help them learn to navigate and use the Librarys resources effectively (print and electronic) Help them learn how to use style formats appropriately Library services and resources Information Literacy Better research papers What We Can Do for YOUR Students Proof and check papers Conduct one-on-one sessions with students Conduct workshops for information literacy skills (apart from in-class information literacy sessions) Help students learn to set up accounts in Library resources, including ILL Help students improve speeches and presentations with Library resources Just a Few Things to Bear in Mind Dont assume that all students are getting exposure to the Library (or the research process) in their freshmen year Dont assume that all students are familiar with the style formats or professors expectations with style formats Scavenger hunts are not meaningful research assignments (and they make librarians cry) Get to know the librarian for your department (subject liaisons) they are willing and ready to help! Just a Few Things to Bear in Mind Collections print and electronic change; be sure to check with the Library before referring students to a specific resource (you can always contact your subject liaison and ask!) Its a good idea to contact the librarians and let them know about research assignments; sometimes students dont know how to ask for the help they need Subject Liaisons Every department has a subject liaison this is the person to contact for instructional sessions, acquisitions questions, and other Library-related questions for your department We recommend putting your subject liaisons name and contact information in your syllabi and in Moodle courses this serves as a good touchpoint for your students to make contact Liaisons are also good places to start for collaboration! The Librarys Resources Print and eBooks though the eBooks tend to be more current than the print ones A *HUGE* selection of electronic periodicals (though we still have some print ones, too) A *HUGE* selection of electronic periodical databases A *HUGE* selection of databases that arent periodical but which provide excellent resources (like practice tests or legal cases) Special Collections and archives!
