+What is anaphylaxis?
A severe, potentially fatal allergic reaction.

Common causes of anaphylaxis:
Foods allergies:• Peanuts• Tree nuts• Shellfish• Fish
Other allergens:
• Latex• Bee stings• Antibiotics or
medications

+Symptoms of anaphylaxis:
When a person exhibits one of the following:
skin, nose, mouth or gastrointestinal symptoms
AND
difficulty breathing such as wheezing, or
decrease in blood pressure
Or at least two of the following:
skin symptoms or lip swelling
decreased blood pressure
gastrointestinal symptoms
[When to use an Epi-Pen]

Why epinephrine? Epinephrine must be given as a “shot”
Dispensed as a self or auto-injector
Must be given as soon as possible
Delay in treatment can be fatal
This medication can reverse symptoms immediately.

1. Remove from case and uncap lid
2. Hold in closed fist with orange tip down

3. Press firmly into middle outer thigh until “click”
4. Hold injector in place for 10 seconds

5. Replace injector back in case
6. Call 911 or take person to nearest emergency dept.
