SOUTHEAST TEXAS
SUZUKI ASSOCIATION
SOUTH/SE REGION
2015-16 ISSUE NO. 7
Fiesta Friday, May 6 2016What’s all the fuss about Summer Suzuki Institutes Should I go to an institute?
The Suzuki Association of the Americas describes summer institutes as “special camps that provide an intensive musical experience for families with children who currently study an instrument through the Suzuki Method. Institutes are located in all regions of the U.S. and Canada, offering activities for students, parents and teachers in one-week sessions throughout the
summer. Families enjoy attending the institute together and participating in a wide range of musical and enrichment activities.”
These camps give parents and children the opportunity to bond with each other, away from home, immersed in joyful music making. Participants return home refreshed, with renewed excitement about their progress on their instrument
and memories of the fun they had and the new friends they made! Ms. Harris will be teaching at the North Carolina Suzuki Institute, July 10-15, and the Pennsylvania Suzuki Institute, July 25-30. Mrs. Schuh will be teaching at the Greater Austin Suzuki Institute, July 26-30. Details at www.suzukiassociation.org. We hope to see you at institute!

Suzuki Philosophy The Seven Concepts of the Suzuki Philosophy, by Danette Schuh Part Seven in a seven part series exploring the Suzuki Philosophy in depth.
The Seven concepts, 1. Every child can learn, 2. Ability develops early, 3. Environment nurtures growth, 4. Children learn from one another, 5. Success breeds success, 6. Parental involvement is critical, 7. Encouragement is essential.
Encouragement is essential. Children require motivation to perform any action. Motivation for eating is physical hunger, and motivation for sleep is fatigue. No one has to create a motivation for a child to eat or to sleep, it will happen naturally. The motivation to become a well-mannered, moral, productive member of society must be created. Encouragement, exemplified by a smile, a hug, or a few kind words, will give the child a wonderful feeling and create a desire to continue the activity or the learning, so they can experience that feeling again.
These seven concepts, when combined sensitively and knowledgeably in raising a child, will create the ideal environment where any child can develop into an excellent human being of superior ability with a beautiful heart.
