NORKAM MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

In 1990, the Norkam Music Parent's Auxiliary, operating under the official name of the “NorKam Music Society” established a $10,000 trust fund account with NorKam Secondary School.. In 1996 the funds were moved to The Kamloops Foundation. The annual interest that accrues from the fund is made available only to graduating NorKam Music students who are continuing in post-secondary education.

* For students continuing in MUSIC post-secondary education * The money will not be disbursed until NorKam Secondary School and NorKam Music Parent's Auxiliary receives confirmation from a bona fide music school, college music department, or university music department of which recipient has been accepted and has enrolled into that program. Students who put off attending post-secondary music programs will have their scholarship monies left in trust for up to five years from graduation. Money not applied for by that time will be returned into the trust fund. In the case where there is more than one (1) applicant, the scholarship money available may be divided.

* For students continuing in OTHER post-secondary education * The money will not be disbursed until NorKam Secondary School and NorKam Music Parent's Auxiliary receives confirmation from a bona fide school, college, or university which the recipient has been accepted and has enrolled into a program. Students must be attending post-secondary school within one year (12 months) of graduation. Money not applied for by that time will be returned into the trust fund. This scholarship may or may not be awarded each year. In the case where there is more than one (1) applicant, the scholarship money available may be divided. Applicants receiving the NorKam Music Scholarship (Musical post-secondary) are not eligible for this award.

School District #73 DAMIAN JENSEN MEMORIAL AWARD APPLICATION

Damian had a passion for climbing. It was through his positive personality, his personal confidence, and his commitment to climbing

that he was able to meet the challenge of his studies and dedicate the time and energy needed to develop in his chosen sport.

Although Damian’s focus was on his climbing, he showed every ability to keep his social life with his friends and his time with his

family balanced.

Climbing, like many passions, is not an activity was offered through the athletic or extracurricular programs of the school district.

This, at times, presented more of a challenge for Damian, as he needed to negotiate on classes and schedules in order to pursue his

climbing. Damian encountered good support for his personalized education plan from a number of his teachers, but did at times find

that he was met with the challenge of satisfying those who did not have the same view of climbing being a priority. Damian actively

engaged in Peer Counseling and thoroughly enjoyed playing soccer.

Award Criteria and Description: The selection committee will consider individuals who demonstrate the following:

• Initiative and commitment to continue their education to a higher level.

• A passion for an individual activity which requires a great deal of time, energy, personal dedication, and which involves travel. The

activity typically would be one that is not sponsored by district athletic programs or extra-curricular activities.

• That the individual also demonstrates an ability to be involved as a ‘team’ player, and continues to maintain a social life with others.

• Minimum C+ average in grades 11 and 12.

Amount and Distribution:

• One award of up to $500. The award is disbursed by the BC Interior Community Foundation.

Application Package:

• Financial Need Form, Grade Submission Form, Activity Record Form, Proof of Post-Secondary Acceptance

• Two letters of reference – at least one must substantiate the applicants main area of activity.

• A short essay from the applicant that outlines his/her individual activity (see the next 2 attached pages).
