PinkDriveMain activities: Program’s priorities• Promote earlier presentation of breast cancer • Address issues around awareness, education, stigma and screening
for breast cancer amongst all women including the community• Provide a framework and blue print to allow for roll out to other
areas of need in the future (comprehensive mother / child)• To drive sustainability of service through public and private sector
Target population • Mammography: South African women aged between 40 – 60 years,
not previously participating in BC screening (program)• In terms of capacity it is estimated per year that:a) 10 000 – 15 000 women will be screened b) 15000 women will be educatedc) 3000 – 4000 women will receive free mammograms

Mobile Educational & Examination UnitOption 1:• Nurse educational session (50 – 70 people)• Time: < 30 min talk (1 session)• DVD shown (10 min)• Manual clinical examinations +/-5 min per person (0– 40 people)• Time: 3 hours • Cost on request• Full CSI certificate issued to company
Option 2: • Nurse educational session (full staff compliment) • Time: < 1 hour talk to all staff or broken up into sessions • Manual clinical examinations +/- 5 min per person (0–100 people)• Time: 6 hours • Cost on request• Full CSI certificate issued to company

Mobile Mammography Unit on SiteOption 3 : • Educational session (all ages)• 30 minutes each (x 2 sessions) + • DVD shown (10 min)• unlimited educated in auditorium setting • Mammography Unit (women must be over the age of 40• Max 25 mammograms per day (20 min each)• Results couriered back to the company within 7 working days • Cost on request• Full CSI certificate issued to company

How does the workshop sessions work?Option 1:• Quick welcome (PinkDrive project representative / medical professional) ~ 5 min• High impact DVD is shown (showcased project at World Cancer Congress in China 2010) ~ 10 min• Introduction to medical team ~ 2 min• Breast health presentation commences – mammographer / nurse ~ 20 – 25 min• Questions and answers ~ 5 minutes• x 1 session: 09h00 – 09h30 educational session; 09h30 – 13h00 clinical examinations
Option 2:• Same procedure as above – except:• x 2 sessions: 09h00 – 09h30 educational session; 09h30 – 12h30 clinical examinations (lunch 12h30 – 13h00)
& 13h00 – 13h30 educational session; 13h30 – 15h30 clinical examinations
Info on clinical breast examination and bra measurement:• The clinical breast examinations take approximately +/- 5 min each. • If there is a bit of a delay at any stage, we will also be doing bra measurements so the ladies are
entertained as – 70% of all women wear incorrect bra size!

Option 3:• State of the art digital mammography equipment• Wooden floors; granite tops; air conditioned• Qualified mammographer and supporting nursing staff• License held by Private Radiologist
Private Sector: • Corporate receives SCI certificate for full value• Private patients are referred to private Radiologist• Limited staff out-of-office time to 20 minutes• Pre-bookings of patients & SMS notification of appointment

Media & ConclusionMedia:• As PinkDrive, is fast becoming one of the best-loved
community initiatives, the organization has benefitted from R16 million free media exposure during 2010, in print, radio and television at events like Comrades Marathon, Cape Argus Cycle tour, Two Oceans.
Conclusion • There is a lack of awareness about breast cancer in South
Africa within the previously disadvantages communities and within the affluent population a lack of interest/fear to get screened, although information is readily accessible. To compound these issues, there are insufficient screening facilities in many areas related to breast cancer and the government hospitals are woefully inadequately resourced and accessing private practices can be either too expensive or simply time prohibitive for most women. Through the provision of accessible services to women in select areas, we can begin to address these needs.
