‘Losing to them in the League back at the start of November was a sore one ,losing a last minute winner in the manner in which we did’

BUDGIE’S BIT CLYDEBANK FC    OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME     SEASON 2012 / 2013        CLYDEBANK FC    OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME     SEASON 2012 / 2013

Another disappointing lost week with our league game with Talbot failing to beat the weather. It was a pity that the thaw came just 24 hours too late as the park would have been ready by then.

I had really been looking forward to the game but we’ll just have to wait now until it’s re-scheduled later in the season. At least we haven’t lost much ground to other teams as all games bar one in our league were postponed. Despite the lack of games, we have been able to keep the players ticking over with some training sessions as it is important that they keep up some conditioning work up during this cold spell.

This Saturday we welcome Arthurlie to Holm Park in the second Round of the West of Scotland cup. Losing to them in the League back at the start of November was a sore one, particularly after coming back into the game and then losing a last minute winner in the manner in which we did, Hopefully today we will have learned from that and progress in a competition which we haven’t really had much success in in the past few years.

After a poor start this season The Dunterlie Park men have recently picked up and have won their last three games scoring twelve goals and only conceding three , so that’s why we have to be sure we are switched on in defence today and also try and cause them problems up front as well.

Can I ask you once again to give our players as much vocal backing as possible in order to help them achieve our third win on the trot?

As this is the last match before Christmas I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Bankies fans and everyone connected with the club a Merry Christmas .All the best.

Onwards & upwards.

Billy McGhie.

Clydebank FC

Running a semi‐professional team can be an expensive business ‐ especially one in the top league of the Juniors. Some teams have input from monied investors, a social club or are perhaps resourced from the sale of assets. Clydebank FC don't have access to any of these income sources ... but we do have the backing of a loyal support ‐ the 12th man.

The Bankies have recently launched a scheme to allow fans to commit a regular sum towards maintaining the club's budget and to help to build on our successful 1st season in the Super Premier ‐ where we punched above our weight. The scheme is called the 100 Club ‐ and that's what we're looking for people to commit to ‐ a minimum of £100 per season. That's £8.33 a month or around £1.92 a week.

If you feel you can sign up to this ‐ or have friends or family that wish to support the club ( or perhaps in memory of a loved one ) ‐ then here's how to do it.

Set up a standing order at the bank ( preferred method ) ‐     Sort Code : 83‐17‐10  Acc No : 00658141

Acc Name : CLYDEBANK FC  Ref :  100 ‐ < put your name in here >

Pay cash or a cheque made payable to CLYDEBANK FC ‐ send to 3 McLaren Crescent, Glasgow G20 0LD or see Club Director Bill Abraham at a game

If you are se ng up a standing order or sending a cheque then please let us know that you're doing so ‐ by mailing [email protected]. This is also the address if you want more detail.

In return for your input you will receive an exclusive enamel badge and be put into a draw for a matchworn jersey at the end of the season. You will also be listed on this page in the matchday programme ‐ unless you'd prefer not to be.

The money will be put to good use and will help us to compete at the highest level.

In recent weeks we have had a stall in the Clydebank Co-op selling merchandise, lucky number tickets and raffles, It has been a great success thanks to the drive and skill of Trisha Hamilton, who is also the woman behind our catering operation. At the ground on match days, it is now possible fans to buy all sorts of snack foods and meal deals with all the profits going straight to the club. This has only been possible through Trisha’s organisational ability and commitment to the project. The same is true of the shopping centre stall. On one day last week it brought in more than £500, revenue we just wouldn’t have had if it were not for Trisha recognising there was a market there and doing something about it. As well as making it money, the Co-op stall has also raised awareness of the club by increasing our profile in the town. Last week an elderly woman bought a Bankies scarf, Trisha asked if it was for a son or grandson but it was for neither. The woman said she just wanted to do something to help the club. One of the best things about what we have done in bringing the Bankies back from the dead is seeing new fans coming along and people getting involved in all aspects of the club. Trisha, like her man Allan, our kit man and goalkeeper coach, have both been great additions to the Clyde-bank family since they got involved. They have also enlisted the support of their daughter Emma and Allan’s mum Cathy who have provided sterling back-up. The Hamilton’ commitment, effort and talent also has an additional affect. What they do helps to sustain and motivate us old-stagers who have been around for a while. So to Trisha and Hammy, and family, thanks to you, personally and on behalf of the club, for all that you bring to Bankies. Today we welcome Arthurlie to Holm Park in a West of Scotland cup tie for what is sure to be another tough game. Please give the players your best support and enjoy the match. I would also like to wish everyone connected with Clydebank Football Club , The players ,The fans , backroom staff and The Boards of both the Club and the Trust a Very Merry Christmas. CLYDEBANK FC    OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME     SEASON 2012 / 2013        CLYDEBANK FC    OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME     SEASON 2012 / 2013

Clydebank and Arthurlie have had an enforced break from competitive football due to the weather and both sides will be look-ing forward to getting back into action this afternoon. Today’s encounter is the second time in recent weeks the sides have been scheduled to play each other here at Holm Park with the Lie coming out on top in the league fixture back in early Novem-ber. That afternoon the referee saw fit to show seven yellow and two red cards in a game that was anything but “dirty”. Hope-fully we will see an equally competitive match today but with fewer cards being dished out and the supporters of each team talking more about the game itself rather than the performance of any of the officials.

This afternoon Arthurlie make the short trip through from Barrhead to face Clydebank in this second round tie of the New Coin Holdings West of Scotland Cup. The Lie have a fairly decent record in this competition over the past few seasons although it could be suggested they have also been a little bit inconsistent. In the last ten seasons they have appeared in the final twice, winning the trophy in 2010-11 when defeating arch rivals Pollok at Newlandsfield Park. Conversely they have exited at the first time of asking twice over the same period.

The Dunterlie Park side are currently sitting in sixth place in the Premier Division table just six points behind Bankies but with two games in hand. After a rather shaky start the Barrhead side are on a decent run of form having won three, lost one and drawn one of their last five matches - that loss being five games ago. Clydebank had also been on a run of decent form before the winter closedown after some poor results and today’s encounter has all the hallmarks of being a keenly fought contest with little between the two combatants.

As pointed out in the programme for the league match back in November the Lie began their season in group five of the sec-tional league cup alongside Benburb, Neilston, Pollok and St Anthony’s. Their first outing came at Tinto Park where they defeated the Bens but they went down 5-3 in a home fixture against arch rivals Pollok in their second game. Next time out they were effectively eliminated from the competition when the Ants won at Dunterlie but they completed their group games with a 5-1 win at near neighbours Neilston to finish third in the section. Their league campaign began with a 2-1 defeat at Saracen Park against Ashfield but they put that disappointment behind them with a home draw against Cumnock. In their next outing they lost again, this time at champions Irvine Meadow which saw them drop into the bottom three in the table, their lowest league position of the season. Next time out they chalked up their first league win this term at Glenafton to climb to eighth. A defeat against then table toppers Auchinleck was next before a draw against old rivals Pollok a week later. They won their next two league matches against Clydebank and Beith to climb the table to a season’s high of sixth before the weather forced the cancellation of their next three league matches. This enforced shutdown couldn’t have come at a worse time for Arthurlie but as this has affected almost every team in the division they haven’t lost any ground to the sides around them in the table. In the two main cup competitions they have started well. In the West of Scotland Cup they were pulled out of the hat against Port Glasgow but won 3-0 to go into this afternoon’s fixture with Clydebank. In the Scottish Cup they face a cracker of a fourth round tie when they host Linlithgow Rose. In this competition they were handed a first round bye and then won 2-1 over Brox-burn to progress to the third round. There they beat Steelend Vics 6-1 to set up the mouth-watering tie against one of the top sides in the East Region.

Arthurlie have a 100% record over Clydebank at this ground. On three previous visits to Holm Park the Barrhead side have won each time. This is a statistic that Bankies fans will be eager to see rectified before long but it will be an extremely tough task for their favourites this afternoon. A long layoff from competitive football after two fine wins is not the ideal preparation for Clydebank against the only side to have won here in the whole of 2012. In thirteen home fixtures at Holm Park Bankies have won eleven, drawn once and lost in that earlier game this term against the Lie. In those thirteen matches the home side have scored thirty four goals and conceded just ten to make Holm Park a bit of a fortress over the calendar year.

Todays Visitors - Arthurlie Player Of The Week

Robert Hamilton : If selected today Robert will make his 50th appearance for the Bankies, He will become the 23rd player to have reached this landmark since 2003. After being thrown in at the deep end last season following the departures of Stefan Gonet and Liam Campbell the big man has without doubt established himself as The Bankies No.1

Clydebank manager Budgie McGhie has made no secret of the fact that he’d like to see his team perform better in the two main cup competitions. A disappointing early exit in the Scottish Cup means that this is the only trophy of the two still available this term. However Bankies record in this particular competition is not much to write home about. In nine previous attempts at this cup Clydebank have only gone as far as the quarter final and that was away back in the 03-04 season, the club’s first year back in junior football. Since then they have failed to set the heather alight having gone out in the first round in the past two seasons. Arthurlie, on the other hand, are very familiar with the latter stages of this competition. Last season they failed to defend their trophy and went out in the first round but over the last ten years they have been in two finals, two semi-finals and a quarter final. In the 04-05 season they lost the final by the odd goal in seven against Troon but won the trophy in their next appearance in the final by beating Pollok by the only goal of the 10-11 final. In the 05-06 season they got to the semi-final but lost 1-0 to Maryhill and suffered the same agony 09-10 season when Irvine Meadow knocked them out on penalties. Their quarter final exit came in the 06-07 season when Glenafton defeated them 3-1 at Dunterlie Park. Clydebank’s quarter final appearance saw them lose 1-0 at Kilsyth Rangers away back in April 2004. Today is a tough fixture for both sides and is arguably the tie of the round.

The pick of the ties elsewhere this afternoon should be at Irvine Meadow, Kilsyth and Kilbirnie. An all Premier clash takes place at Meadow Park where Medda face a tough tie against Glenafton Athletic in what should be an intriguing fixture. There is a local derby at Duncansfield Park where Kilsyth Rangers host near neighbours Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. In the sectional league cup the Rabs lost 3-1 at home to their arch rivals and the Premier Division side will be looking for revenge. In Ayrshire two sides who swapped Divisions meet when improving Kilbirnie Ladeside await the visit of Premier Division opponents Shotts Bon Accord. With Shotts at the foot of the table in the top tier and Ladeside within touching distance of the two promotion places in the division below this has the makings of a great tie. There is also a league match that should be of interest to fans of both Clydebank and Arthurlie as another big derby match is sched-uled at Beechwood Park where Auchinleck Talbot, surprisingly eliminated from this competition by Wishaw, meet fierce rivals Cumnock who were knocked out by Petershill in the first round.

Can Clydebank get revenge for the league defeat here against Arthurlie? Ninety minutes, and perhaps a penalty decid-er, will tell.

This years Sporting Dinner looks like being a sell out if early bookings are anything to go by. Once again it will be held in the Hardgate Golf Club . Tickets are priced at £35.00 per person.

If you have not booked your seat or table yet it is advisable to do so as soon as possible.

To make sure that we don't have the same level of call offs as we have in previous years, there will be a £10 deposit per person which is non-refundable.

As well as the three speakers on the night there will also be the annual induction into the Bankies Hall of Fame which is not to be missed this year.

You can either get your tickets from any club director or you can buy online where there is an extra £2 booking fee.

Titan Talks To…Paul Allum Last Years Hogmanay dance was such a big success that we just had to do it again this year. Once again it will be held in the 543 club in Dalmuir and festivities will begin around 8.00pm.

This is selling out really fast and no doubt there will be a few last minute panic attacks for tickets, to avoid all this you can buy your ticket now while there is still time so don't delay.

Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £3 for kids , for this you will be entertained and fed although you’ll have to do the watering bit yourselves. This year there are two acts on the entertainment bill, starting off proceedings will be Eamon, a fine male vocalist , and following that we have a new band for you who go by the name of ‘Dirty Black’ who are pictured below, why not check them out on YouTube.

Anyone still wanting tickets should see Stevie McLaren asap or any other club Director.

 Club News …..Part Two

This week Titan spoke to Bankies 3rd longest serving player, Paul Allum.

This is your 7th season at the club, can you do a Hailstones and make it ten?

You never know but it's a great achievement by Hailstones as he's probably had a few offers to leave but because how well the club is run and the fans he's stayed.

Who is the best player you have played with at Bankies?

Two players for me, Darian MacKinnon and Allan Jack. Jacko’s left peg was frightening and I don't think I've seen anyone better than Daz at running with the ball.

Your favourite goal for Bankies?

Think it was my first goal for Clydebank against Yoker at the Hibby.

And your best goal?

My free kick against Glenafton, not many to choose from to be honest. lol

What was it like to play in the junior cup final?

Definitely my best experience at Clydebank, I was lucky to start the final as I'd missed the quarter and the semi's through injury so I owe Budgie big time. Even though we lost , the reception we got from the fans back in Clydebank was unreal.

What position do you prefer playing, right back or right midfield?

Right back is probably my best position but we've got Dinger and Scott Walker who's been excellent since he got his chance, so I'm happy playing anywhere as long as I'm playing!

Have you forgiven Barry Cook? (Sent Paul off in THAT game!) No!

What's your thoughts on Frank Lynch leaving for Beith?

Frank is obviously a big loss with his experience, but we still have Souness and Jammy there so I don't think it will effect us too much.

Who is your player of the year so far?

I think Tommy and Andy Paterson will be up there at the end of the season but for so far I think Archie has been quality.

What can this Bankies team achieve this season?

I don't like trying to predict anything but I definitely don't fear any team in the league. We've got a lot of quality through the team so we'll see what happens.

Thanks again to Paul…….Titan

MRS.McVICAR

All at Clydebank Football Club were sad to hear of the recent passing of Mrs.McVicar.

Peggy was a well known face at The Bankies for many years and very rarely missed a game.

She also helped out now and again by making the corner flags and the 50-50 half time draw bag.

She will be sadly missed and condolences go to Ian and Alistair and family at this sad time.

A minutes silence will be observed this afternoon in memory of a great lady.
