Option 1: Course Counselling Booking Parents of Year 9 2020 (Students Year 8 2019) have the opportunity to book an appointment with the Junior School Leader to go over the course selection process and potential pathways to their Senior School studies. Students will receive a unique webcode that will be distributed to students on Monday 5th August, it is recommended you bring the code to the appointment. Year 9 Subject Selection for 2020

• The Year 9 Curriculum comprises a group of compulsory subjects together with some choices your child is required to make.

• This is a new and exciting time. Your child will be able to make decisions about what

they want to study in 2020.

• At Berwick College, our curriculum is student-driven. We structure our classes based on

students’ choices.

• Subject selections are completed online or in 2019 you have an opportunity to book a

Course Counselling appointment via Compass. The appointment is optional.

• Students will receive a unique webcode on Monday 5th August.

• Students study seven (7) subjects per semester.

• Core (year-long compulsory) subjects are English, Maths, Science and Humanities.

• Students will select six (6) units for the whole 2020 year

• ALL Students Must Choose

• One (1) Technology Subject

• One (1) Art Subject

• One (1) Physical Education Subject

• Plus Three (3) Electives of your choice

• Plus Three (3) Reserve subjects – These selections need to be made

carefully as students may be placed in these subjects as their main

selections.

• If you would like to be a part of the Basketball or Dance Academy you

must select these as part of an elective subject – preferably in the

Physical Education choice and The Arts choice.

a. Login to EDVAL using your webcode b. Click Sign In. c. Select Electives 2020.

d. Choose the correct pathway – The Flexible Learning Program (FLP) is a select entry program and students are not guaranteed to be placed in this program.

e. Please read the curriculum guide for more information on what students study in the program.

SELECTING BASKETBALL AND DANCE ACADEMY

Basketball & Dance Academy are part of your elective choices at year 9. These electives are

“year-long” subjects and will count as two (2) out of the six (6) unit choices.

SELECTING INDONESIAN AND MUSIC AS AN ELECTIVE: If you are selecting Indonesian and/or Music as one of the electives then one of The Other boxes may be blank as Indonesian and Music is studied over the year and represents two (2) units out of your six (6) units.
