NRA Defensive Pistol Course Location: 4015 Simpson Lane, Suite 8, Richmond, Kentucky 40475 Pre-Requisite: 1) Must be approved by ALL Instructors 2) Must have a Concealed Permit that required attending a class of minimum 4 hours Participant Equipment Requirements:

1. Quality pistol appropriate for Concealed Carry – minimum 9mm or .38 Special 2. Strong side hip holster – fitted leather or kydex or similar material – MUST COVER TRIGGER/TRIGGER GUARD

3. Quality belt designed to carry a holster and a firearm securely

4. Quality factory new ammunition suitable for practice - minimum 300 rounds

5. Minimum of two (2) spare magazine or speed loaders with appropriate pouches

6. Clothing appropriate for concealed carry

7. Eye Protection - minimum Z87

8. Ear Protection - preferably electronic

9. Cover garment 10. Clothing for any weather

Objective: To develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly, and with

confidence Description: The course is at least 8 hours long and is conducted by an NRA Training Counselor and NRA Instructors in a

classroom and at a shooting facility. Defensive Pistol candidates will be able to explain and/or demonstrate the following:

1. The importance of carrying and using a pistol responsibly and ethically for personal protection

2. How the NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling are applied to concealed carry

3. Basic Principles of concealment 4. Present a pistol – reholster 5. Mental Awareness

6. Mental Preparation to develop a defensive mindset for carrying and using a pistol for personal protection

7. Techniques for avoiding life-threatening confrontations

8. Explain the psychological and physiological changes that may occur during an attack

9. Flash sight picture

10. Reload under stress

11. Clear common stoppages – immediate action drills

12. Present a pistol from concealment and shoot targets at varying distances

conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations. Description: This course is nine hours long and is conducted by an NRA Chief Range Safety Officer (CRSO) in a classroom and

at a shooting facility . Range Safety Officer candidates will learn

1. Roles and responsibilities of an RSO 2. Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) 3. Range inspection 4. Range rules 5. Range briefings 6. Emergency procedures 7. Firearm stoppages and malfunctions Each Range Safety Officer Candidate will receive an RSO Student Study Guide, a Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, an NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, an Instructor Application/Course Evaluation form.
