Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,

May I take this opportunity to warmly welcome both new and current families alike to our happy, successful school. It is a privilege that we have the opportunity to provide your child with the very best education they deserve. We recognise that a childs education is a once in a lifetime chance which we aim to make as fun and successful as possible.

This document provides important information about our school, our aims, our curriculum and all aspects of school life which we are proud to be part of. Im confident that through sharing our policies and ethos, you will gain a better understanding of how our school operates and will continue to help support us throughout the education of our children.

All of our pupils deserve a safe, secure and stimulating environment, where they are interested and motivated to learn. Our pupils are given every opportunity to develop an enthusiasm for learning about themselves, their friends and the world around them in an environment where their natural development can be fostered. At Blaengwrach Primary School, our pupils experience a stimulating curriculum that recognises their wider range of achievements. It is our responsibility to ensure each and every pupil is equipped with life-long skills that will prepare them to face the 21st century with independence, confidence and success. Our pupils are given a wealth of opportunities where their full potential is recognised and actively developed. They know that their efforts are valued, and they are always respected and treated fairly. Our pupils are encouraged to believe in themselves; they are supported whilst achieving their goals and this empowers them to succeed in their ambitions.

Our motto Believe, Achieve, Succeed is embedded in our philosophy and permeates our whole school ethos on a daily basis during collective worship, our teaching and extra-curricular activities.

I look forward to working in close partnership with you during this phase of your childs educational journey.

Yours Faithfully,

Mrs Sam Sharp ALCM, BA (Hons), NPQH

Address from our Chair of Governors

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for taking the time to read this report and for taking an interest in Blaengwrach Primary School.

I am extremely proud of the school, three of my children have attended the school and I have always been thrilled with the attention they have received and the interaction the school has with parents and guardians.

One word that I could use to sum up Blaengwrach Primary School is team, the teachers and classroom assistants work extremely well together and there is a real sense of partnership between staff, parents, guardians and governors, and this leads to a real benefit to the pupils who are more than just students, they are part of a community. I feel that we in Cwmgwrach are extremely privileged to have a school with the standards of Blaengwrach Primary School, which strives to ensure that every child achieves their potential.

I wholeheartedly recommend Blaengwrach Primary School to you and if you wish to get it touch with me then I would love to hear from you and can be contacted through the school office.

Kind regards,

Christopher Pavett

Chair of Governors

Our School Context

Blaengwrach Primary School is situated in the Upper Neath Valley and serves the communities of Blaengwrach, Cwmgwrach and Glynneath. We are very fortunate to be sited in a picturesque location and we offer a wide and varied programme of extra-curricular activities.

The school has two buildings; the original block which was built in 1908 and the new addition which was built six years later in 1914. The buildings are separated by play areas. We are extremely lucky to own a school field and a nature area very close to our school. We take every opportunity to make the most of our wonderful grounds.

The original building houses the Head Teacher's Office, the Administration Office, the Community room and several classrooms. The pupil toilet facilities in this building were re-designed and refurbished in 2012 and fully comply with statutory requirements. Toilet facilities ensure the school is fully inclusive. They are cleaned daily with any emergency spills dealt with immediately. Liquid soap and toilet paper is frequently checked and refilled when necessary. Hand driers and paper towels are provided for pupils use.

The Foundation Phase building houses the Staff Room, Canteen, hall/library and four classrooms. There is also a separate enclosed play area which has both hard and grassed surfaces.

Blaengwrach Primary School is a single site school located in the village of Cwmgwrach. It is in an attractive setting and parents and children are encouraged to develop ideas for the enhancement of the external environment of the school. The school has twice been awarded the Wales in Bloom award as National Champion. We have been awarded our bronze and Silver Eco awards and are currently working towards achieving the coveted ECO-School Green Flag award.

Strong Home/School links are vital and we work hard to develop good working relationships with parents and carers. Regular opportunities are provided for parents to come into school and keep up to date with childrens progress. Letters, newsletters, Twitter and texts ensure up to date information is always available. Our school website: www.npted.org/blaengwrachprimary is an ideal way of keeping up to date with diary dates, newsletters and gaining answers to many questions you may have. Our Governors, Head teacher and Staff are always eager to meet and discuss any queries you may have at a mutually convenient time.

In addition to this, various sub committees such as Finance, Curriculum and Health and Safety meet regularly to scrutinise in further detail the work of the school.
