All new faculty hire cases will need to include the “Proposal to Hire Worksheet” which captures in summary form the essential information necessary for the case to move through the process. This worksheet eliminates the need for the funding plan to be included in the Chair/Director cover letter.
Complete cases received by the Tuesday deadline can generally be expected to go to Executive Committee in two weeks.
Draft letters of offer will be replaced with the “Offer
Worksheet” which streamlines the Offer Group’s review and approval of commitments for new hires

Faculty Members may be appointed in multiple units, schools & colleges and are referred to as Joint Appointments. They may vary in type, such as: Tenure-track or tenured appointments in multiple
units with effort split between units to support the position
Tenure-track or tenured appointment in one unit along with an appointment in a non-tenure granting unit (i.e., English & Residential College)
Courtesy (or dry) appointment in one unit with a tenure-track or tenured appointment in another unit

What is an MOU? A Memorandum of Understanding is a
document that outlines the agreement between multiple units regarding funding, teaching, third year review and promotion, etc. for a new faculty member.

Each approved or authorized position is assigned a position # by the college and is normally budgeted at the junior level, which for 07-08 is a salary rate of $90,000.
When a unit does not have an authorized position or when the salary for the position will exceed $90,000, the worksheet must include a detailed funding plan.

We have changed the process for offer letters: Units no longer start with template offer letter, rather
commitments are now captured on an Offer Worksheet Receipt of an Offer Worksheet triggers review and
discussion by the Offer Group and facilitates negotiation and approval of commitments for new hires.
Once approved, units are notified that they may now submit a draft
offer letter Draft offer reviewed by in Divisional

All cases should be submitted with
a Proposal to Hire Worksheet The offer approval process will now
begin with the submission of an
Offer Worksheet rather than a draft
letter of offer. Units may opt to submit the Offer Worksheet and the
case materials at the same time to minimize delays in making an offer to the candidate but it is not required.
There is a two-week timeline from submission to DEC/EC review.
