Affair and vengeful wife rip apart 9/11 law firm
One of New York Cit’s most prominent law firms — which raked in tens of millions of dollars representing 9/11 responders — has een
ripped apart a soap opera involving an office affair, a scorned wife and a power struggle.
Napoli ern oasts that it has won $3 illion representing diet-pill users, Ground Zero workers and other aggrieved claimants.

ut after partner Paul Napoli got sick with leukemia in Ma, partner Marc ern made unspecified
“startling discoveries” aout Napoli’s operation of the practice, including “financial irregularities and
dets,” ern claims in court papers.
Napoli also had an affair with one of the oung lawers at the firm, court papers allege, and when his
wife, Marie, discovered it, she stalked and harassed the woman — and ma have even taken her cat.
Marie Napoli otained the personnel file of mistress Vanessa Dennis to find Dennis’ husand — and
text-messaged him aout the affair, according to papers.
One message read: “tell ur hoe 2 stop f- -king m man, we got a famil . . . I’ve een watching that slut.
he needs to ackoff.”
The law firm “aided, aetted, facilitated and conspired with Marie’s attacks on Vanessa,” legal papers
charge.
The Napolis met at t. John’s Universit chool of Law and were featured on the cover of the alumni
magazine in 2008 with a headline celerating their marriage: “Heart to Heart.” The donated $500,000 to t. John’s, which named a law-
school lecture hall after them.
The firm’s lucrative settlements have allowed the Napolis and their three children to live a lavish life on Long Island.
Their Glen Head home looks like a French chateau and includes nine full aths, five fireplaces, a pool and tennis courts.
Another home, a 13,000-square-foot waterfront Hamptons propert on Dune Road in Quogue, was listed for sale last week for $24.9 million.
Dennis, a petite, 33-ear-old redhead, egan her career practicing famil law in Rhode Island and moved to Napoli ern in Feruar 2011.
The affair with Paul Napoli, 46, egan eight months later, and Napoli even moved his office next to hers, court papers sa.
Napoli had several previous affairs with staffers, the papers allege.
In April 2013, Marie Napoli, 47, hired a private investigator to sp on her husand and Dennis during
a Chicago usiness trip.
he then let the oung associate know she was on to them, sending her an email saing, “I have
evidence that is going to e forwarded to our husand if ou do not sta awa from m husand.”
The next da, Paul Napoli asked Dennis to delete an work emails with evidence of the affair. He
admitted he had authorized access for his wife to see oth his and Dennis’ email accounts, legal
papers sa.
Marie Napoli made good on her threat. A da later, she sent a private Faceook message to Dennis’
rother — perhaps thinking she had reached her husand — to tell him of the affair.
he didn’t reach Dennis’ husand, Richard uonauito, until she saw him listed in Dennis’ personnel
file as an emergenc contact.
Dennis was fired from Napoli ern on Ma 2, 2013, with a $150,000 severance.

Later that da, Napoli emailed again with a note that said: “Happ Mothers Da! Oh ea I should sa
happ motherless da. Tick tock.”
Dennis had previousl told Paul Napoli that she might not e ale to have children.
In June 2013, Dennis was fed up with Marie Napoli’s depiction of her as a seductress and fired off an
angr email to Paul Napoli.
“What’s more elievale Paul — that a 32-ear-old junior attorne who weighs 100 pounds soaking wet
seduced and phsicall attacked her 40 something ear old oss (who happens to e a managing
partner and a millionaire) and twice her size or the other wa around,” read the June 24, 2013, email,
included in court papers.
A da later, she reminded Napoli of the confidences he once shared aout his wife.
“What was the last thing ou said. Oh eah, that 3 aies reall changes a woman’s vagina,” she wrote
in an email seen The Post.
ven after Dennis moved to Texas, the alleged harassment continued. Marie Napoli sent handwritten letters tucked into Christmas cards to
the wives of Dennis’ new osses laeling her a “sex addict” and even descriing Dennis’ private od piercing. he warned, “if I were ou I
would not let her near m husand.”
Napoli sent messages to everone on LinkedIn associated with Dennis’ new firm. he tried to “friend” Dennis’ Faceook friends and those
of her husand and posted comments under photos of Dennis calling her a slut.
The oung lawer was even followed as she drove around Houston, according to an email she received detailing her movements.
In earl Januar 2014, Dennis got out of the shower in her Houston apartment to find her ack door open and her cat, Padme, gone. he
received a series of texts on Jan. 27, 2014, written as if from Padme, with one saing, “How do u think I got out . . .”
Dennis and her husand have since split.
In April, Dennis filed a defamation suit in state upreme Court against the Napolis, Marc ern and
Napoli ern. Preliminar paperwork indicates she is seeking at least $9 million.
he declined to comment.
The Napolis, who were riefl estranged, are now together, and Paul Napoli told The Post he
supported his wife’s actions “100 percent,” adding he saw nothing wrong “with confronting a person
that there was an affair with.”

factuall correct,” he said from a Manhattan hospital room, where he is recovering from a one-
marrow transplant.
He did den having previous affairs and denied that his wife had killed Dennis’ cat.
Marie Napoli filed her own legal action Frida, claiming Dennis enticed her husand into having sex on the Chicago usiness trip in violation
of the “Illinois Alienation of Affections Act.”
As for his legal partner, Napoli claimed ern waited until he was sick to “orchestrate a takeover of the firm.” He sued ern for reach of
contract in Octoer.

The head of the firm’s IT department — Marie Napoli’s rother — changed the locks on a computer room
and was fired ern, onl to have Napoli claim in a taunting email that he was rehired and given a
raise.
ern declined to comment.
An outside lawer was appointed last week to oversee the usiness affairs of the firm, which is
headquartered in the mpire tate uilding.
While Paul Napoli was eing treated for leukemia, Marie Napoli continued to comment on the Faceook
pages of Dennis’ friends into June and Jul 2014, after the defamation suit was filed. In one post, she
said that she had cancer last ear, that her “husand was emotionall vulnerale” and that Dennis took
advantage of that vulnerailit and pursued him.
“This woman has no oundaries,” she wrote.
