The IRON CURTAIN Foundation Worldwide and WiN IAEA Chapter with the support of the Czech Permanent Mission to

the UN, OSCE and other International Organizations in Vienna presented an

Exhibition at the VIC Rotunda on 7–15 January 2015

SECRET NUCLEAR WEAPON DEPOT

In the summer of 2013, an executive member of Women in Nuclear (WiN) IAEA learned about the

existence of the Atom Museum and attended the opening ceremony in the Czech Republic. In Novem-

ber 2013, about 15 WiNners IAEA visited the military site near Misov in the Czech Republic, where

the formerly secret bunker is located. We walked through the bunker in awe, and the idea was born to

organize an exhibition of the Atom Museum here in the VIC Rotunda.

This historical exhibition in the VIC Rotunda was a great success. It displayed photos showing the

inside of the bunker that gave you an idea of what it must have been like in those Cold War days,

when soldiers were guarding the bunker, with nuclear missiles ready to be deployed.

WiN IAEA has the pleasure of offering a one-day trip to the Atom Mu-

seum in Misov, Czech Republic, to WiN Global Conference participants

on Friday 28 August 2015.

WiN IAEA Chapter Seminar

D. Dudenhöffer on Cyber-Security

12 February 2015

COMPUTER SECURITY IN A NUCLEAR WORLD

Donald Dudenhöffer, an IT Security Officer of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security,

Division of Nuclear Security at the IAEA, started the series of WiN IAEA seminars in 2015 on 12

February with his talk on cybersecurity. During his presentation, Mr. Dudenhöffer shared some

examples from recent years on security breaches of IT systems in major corporations around the

world and demonstrated how severe the consequences of such attacks could be. He gave an

overview of IT security systems and several types of security breaches. Also, Mr. Dudenhoeffer

stressed that the human factor was the weakest link in most IT security systems and gave examples

of recent phishing attempts. The talk concluded with an open invitation for all WiN members to

attend the IAEA Cybersecurity Conference this June.

WiN Global Executive and Board Meeting

during the PIME Conference in Bratislava

2 March 2015

WiN IAEA Chapter President and Execu-

tive Eva and also Vice-president and Board

Member Gabi attended the WiN Global

meeting in Bratislava.

The main topic on the agenda was the 2015

conference status, and confirmation of the

next WiN conferences in UAE (2016), Chi-

na (2017) and potentially in Argentina

(2018).

In 2016, the WiN communication work-

shop, traditionally organized by WiN

during PIME, will be held in WNA Lon-

don instead, most likely in spring by

WiN UK. It was decided that in future

WiN workshops during PIME might be

organized by local chapters as wished

and feasible. The next PIME conference

2016 will be held in Romania.

The strategic plan members of WiN Global chaired by Irene Aegerter will

meet on 15 May in Vienna. Eva and Gabi were and will continue to be

members of this important initiative.

The WiN Global meeting was organised and sponsored by WiN Slovakia!
