H ello and welcome to the Missouri Canoe and Floaters Association 2020 Directory. The

MCFA thanks you for choosing our Official Statewide Directory. Whether you’re a resident or visitor to Missouri, I believe our Directory is a great place to start searching for all your outdoor needs this year! The waterways in Missouri are incomparable and offer top-notch vacations for families and outdoor enthusiasts. The weather throughout 2019 was unpredictable and kept everyone on their toes but the camping and floating season for most outfitters was nothing short of a success! Despite the weather, people from all over the country were not discouraged from enjoying the picturesque views, feelings of serenity and spending quality time with close family and friends out on the beautiful streams and rivers of the Ozarks. As always, the waterways and outfitters here in Missouri did not disappoint! They once again have shown us how to reconnect with nature and enjoy time spent outdoors through various recreational activities with people we care about the most. - Do not jump into the river from bluffs or fallen trees.

- Do not swing on vines.

- Do not drink the water unless you boil or treat it first.

- Pack out what you bring in.

- stay out of caves until you check with a ranger. If you go in, take 3 light sources.

- Always wear a life jacket on the river.

- Move your campsite if flood conditions begin to develop. never go back to the river during high water – head for higher ground on foot.

- Do not take glass on Missouri streams. this is prohibited by Missouri law.

floating, fishing and swimming. Canoeing, rafting,

tubing and kayaking are among the most popular

outdoor activities in Missouri. Enjoy beautiful

scenery – towering limestone bluffs or a graceful

great blue heron as you ride the river’s twists and

bends

Outfitters on our rivers and streams are ready to

launch floaters on a day, or longer, of fun and

relaxation. Rushing springs, including some

of America’s most majestic, keep streams floatable

year-round. Many Ozark streams are known as

some of the best floating and trout fishing streams

in the Midwest.

And there’s not much paddling involved. For the

most part, just go with the flow and admire the

wonders of Missouri’s Ozark valleys. Along with

canoes and equipment, outfitters may also offer

campgrounds, RV sites, cabins and lodges.

A float trip on an Ozark waterway is an ideal

vacation for the entire family. Our streams are cool,

clear and spring-fed, providing some of the most

enjoyable recreation in the state.

BAsIC stRokesThe first stroke to learn is the simple bow stroke. The paddler reaches forward with the blade, dips it into the water and pulls it back along the side of the canoe. Although this is known as

the bow stroke, it is the basic stroke used by both the bow and stern paddlers when two persons are paddling. The stern paddler, who is responsible for steering the canoe, ends the bow stroke with an outward sweep of the paddle. For balance, safety and keeping on course, the stern paddler usually paddles on the opposite side of the canoe from the bow paddler. Strokes should be timed with those of the bow paddler. The bow paddler must learn additional strokes, for it is sometimes necessary to control the direction of the canoe from the bow.

swAMPInGIf you get stuck on a rock or log, lean downstream. If you capsize be sure to stay upstream of the canoe. Otherwise you might get pinned between the boat and an obstruction.
