ORC Main Components

Page 8: ! 13 ORC

Advantages of ORC

• Completely automated – no operator

• Very low O&M Costs

• Simple Start/Stop procedures

• Maintains good efficiency at partial load

• Low turbine RPM, low mechanical stress

• Can reach efficiencies up to 25%

• Do not consume water

• Remotely monitored and controlled

• Turn-down to 10% of nominal power

• Quiet Operation

Sample Heat Recovery Projects

• Heat recovered from exhaust gas & jacket water from 1.6MWe landfill gas engine and steam turbine.

• Commissioned November 2010, Haverhill, MA

• Client: Covanta Energy

• ORC Electric Power: 560 kWe

• Albany, NY County Sewer District waste water treatment plant

• Under construction: cogeneration system with 1 MWe ORC

• Waste heat from existing sludge incinerator.

• Funded by NYSERDA and ARRA Photo courtesy of Albany County Sewage District
