Hello LA Shriners!

I hope this message finds you well and ready to join in the Shrine FUN and Fellowship!

Oh my what a month it’s been. Yes! 63 New Nobles were initiated at our beautiful new Medical Center in Pasa-dena on March 24th. Plus, an additional 6 New Nobles were initiated using the “Mini Ceremonial” format at the Oasis Lodge Stated meeting on April 4th at our Shrine Auditorium. WOW!! Our Director of Mentorship Noble Barry Balonick has these 69 New Nobles fired up and many have already joined Units and Clubs. Noble Lou Gross, our Clown Unit President, said at least 3 new Clowns from the 1st class are joining their Unit and plan on ‘Clowning’ at the next big Ceremonial June 30th to attract more Clown recruits. The Clown Unit’s goal this year is to add a minimum of ten new members, Awesome!!

Speaking of Ceremonials, the next one will be June 2nd in the “Mini Ceremonial” format at the “All Central Coast” POV and Ceremonial. A special thanks to ILL Sir Ron Ritter, Nobles Greg Schlitz & Eric Laiblin for head-ing up this event. It is sure to be a great social and an opportunity to add New Nobles to these Clubs. Carpinte-ria SC is our newest SC and we attended their first POV April 7th. We had a great time with a roasted pig and all. They have several candidates ready to join the Shrine and may join at either the Central Coast Ceremonial or the Outdoor Ceremonial! Get ready for a great time in Santa Maria/Oceano.

FYI, the Piano Guys Concert at the Shrine was OUTSTANDING! They were entertaining and extremely talented. It was especially FUN to meet some of the Shriners at the Kopper Squad Room for a social before the Concert! Thanks Kopper Kaptain Rizzotto!

In the future we would like to know who is going to the concert so we can invite you to a pre-concert social somewhere in our Shrine, hosted by the Potentate. Thanks!

Finally, don’t forget the Boot Scoot’n Shin Dig at the Mancave. It’s an all inclusive event that is sure to put a sway in your walk and a smile on your face. Ride the mechanical bull as many times as you like for free. Beat the Pote’s time and win! Best time gets a PRIZE!!

Hello there my Fellow Nobles, Kerry Halgrims here, your official Director of Feztivities!

My charge is to be involved and support virtually every fraternal event that goes on in Al Malaikah Shrine. Some events like the Gala and some FUNdraisers are predetermined and ILL Sir Guy had a specific team overseeing those events. All other events he asked me to be fully involved in by overseeing some and chairing others. As part of your Membership Team I work to promote events through our PR and Membership Chairman Lou Worthy, we can promote an event to Blue Lodge members through Director of Lodge Ambassadors Noble Jack Witz and we can get the new members involved via Noble Barry Balonick, Director of Mentorship. It’s a Great plan and really seems to be working well.

We have several activities coming up including the Boot Scootin’ Shin Dig (adult members and friends) at the Mancave May 6th, Open Table Lodge by Oasis Lodge (Masons and Shriners only) at the Shrine Auditorium, Dodger Night (family and friends) August 1st, Shrine Bowling (family and friends) August 11th and Cigars Under the Stars (all are welcome) August 25th. There’s something for everyone. Please see the Flyers in this Magazine for more details.

More BIG News, Noble Roland Sanchez was the Top Line signer on 17 of our 63 New Nobles March 24th. Not only was that the most for Al Malaikah but it was the most of any Noble in all of Shrinedom. Imperial gives a monthly and quarterly award to the Noble who Top Line signs the most candidates. Noble Roland won it and received a fabulous prize!! Great Job Brother!

On a side note, the 2017 3rd quarter winner of the Imperial Top Line Signer award was our own Noble Lou Worthy! Al Malaikah has won the award 2 of the last 3 quarters. Let’s keep it going guys- who’s going to be the next Al Malaikah/Imperial winner?

You have two chances to bring in Nobles in the 2nd quarter, June 2nd Central Coast or our next full-dress Ceremonial will be an “outdoor” event June 30th in the big backyard of Noble Barry Balonick. Barry resides in Encino and is close to the freeway so don’t be shy. They say it’s been 25 years since we’ve had an Outdoor Ceremonial so it’s gotta be a great one! Bring your favorite Mason and let’s make them Shriners!

You don’t have to worry because the Silver Mounted Patrol will have a

wagon at this parade capable of holding 14 Nobles which will be surrounded

by members of the Silver Mounted Patrol on horseback to escort you through

the parade.

Several seats have already been reserved but there are still seats available. The cost to ride is $50 per

person to cover the cost of renting the wagon. As you can see in the pictures you will be sitting on a

bench seat where you will be able to wave to all those that have come to see the parade.

Seats are on a first come first served basis. Don’t be left out. If you are interested don’t wait these seats

Dear Nobles & Friends,

It is my pleasure to invite you to join us for what will be Al Malaikah’s 37th consecutive trip to the largest single sporting event in the world; The Indianapolis 500 Race.This year will be the 102nd year for the race and promises to be an outstanding event. We will leave on an early flight, Wednesday May 23rd and return on Monday May 28th. The trip package as planned includes the following:• Round trip airfare from LAX.• All ground transportation in Indianapolis.• Five (5) nights housing at the newly upgraded Holiday Inn Indianapolis-Carmel including a Full Hot Breakfast Buffet daily.• Gasoline Alley tours and Race Day tickets, (great seats on the outside of the first turn).• Factory tour of the Dallara Indy Car Co plus we are working on additional activities & Tours.• All dinners.• A barbeque dinner with Murat Temple’s Potentate, Divan, Past Potentates and the Imperial Potentate.• Parade seats and continental breakfast on Saturday.• Race day breakfast, box lunch, and police escorted bus transportation to the track.• All refreshments in the Hospitality Room.

At this time, it is too early to finalize the exact costs, however we estimate the cost to come in at about $2000.00, or hopefully less depending on the airfare.

As in previous years, this is a revenue neutral activity. Any funds left over after expenses will be refunded to the participants. Or if there is a shortage all participants will be billed the difference.

In order to get our race tickets, we had to purchase them last June. We will have to pay the hotel and airlines the deposits in the near future. Your quick response would be appreciated. If we do not hear from you by Feb-ruary 28, 2018, we will assume you are not interested in going.We will also be obtaining the passes for Gasoline Alley soon, so we will have entrance to it as we have in the past years.
