1. CENTRAL OFFICE RSP

During 2010-2016, Radiological Society of Pakistan was able to gather enough funds to

be able to buy its own Central Office. It was efforts of Prof Hamid Akram, Dr Najam Uddin,

Dr.Khawaja Khurshid, Dr Naseem Begum, Prof M. Nadeem Ahmed, Dr Muhammad

Nafees and Dr Tahir Qadeer Khan that we were able to buy Central Office RSP which will

be a permanent asset for Radiological Society of Pakistan. In 2017, the Office was

inaugurated and attended by the senior members/Advisory Council of the Radiological

Society who appreciated the efforts of all the Executive Councils which lead us to where

we are today. The space of Central Office can be used for CME Conductance,

Workshops, Seminars and Executive Council Meetings and has a capacity of almost 50

people.

Having said that the journey doesn’t stop here. There is still a lot to be done and RSP will

thrive to achieve excellence and create a platform for the future radiologists of the

Country.

2. RENEWAL OF REGISTRATION

The renewal of registration was pending for the last 33 years (since its registration). The

untiring efforts of Central Office particularly Dr. Tahir Qadeer Khan who compiled the

record of last 33 years and got it approved after working day and night and meeting

relevant authorities. The Radiological Society of Pakistan is officially a tax free registered

society now.

3. RSP: TAX EXEMPTION

After continuous efforts and repeated inspections by the Taxation Office, RSP has been

provided exemption certificate. It was not an individual effort but the efforts of all that kept

us motivated. RSP is now a tax exempted society.

4. EUROPEAN DIPLOMA IN RADIOLOGY

(EDiR EXAM AT ISLAMABAD)

It gives us a great deal of pleasure and satisfaction that the EDiR exam was conducted

successfully at Islamabad and almost 70% candidates cleared it.

RSP has always thrived to facilitate its members and help them in achieving high

standards in the field of radiology. It was due to collaboration between Central Office and

the Executive Councils that this exam was a success and it has opened a lot of

opportunity to conduct all kinds of international exams in Pakistan. The International

Liaison Committee deserves special mention here as it was due to their efforts and many

meetings that we were able to conduct the exam in Pakistan.

5. CME’s

CME was conducted on the Topic of “Obstetrical & Gynecological

Imaging” at Hospitality INN Hotel, Lahore on 29th January 2017 where

a large number of radiologists/trainees attended the CME.

CME was held at Rehman Medical Institute, Peshawar on the topic of

“HCC: From diagnosis to treatment” on 19th Feb, 2017 which was

attended by large number of radiologists/trainees.

FCPS/FRCR Preparatory Course was conducted at CPSP Regional

Centre, Lahore with video link given to all major CPSP Regional

Centres. The speaker was Dr. Faisal Khosa who talked on Dual Energy

CT and Liver Lesions made easy. This activity was conducted on 20

March 2017.

Radiology Seminar conducted in Multan on the topic of “Emerging

Radiology” at CPEIC, Multan on 20 May 2017 where a large number

of radiologist/trainees attended the seminar.

CME was conducted on the topic of “Female Imaging” at Hospitality

INN Hotel, Lahore on 27th August, 2017 where a large number of

radiologist from and around Lahore attended.

Seminar on “Pediatric Radiology” was conducted on the occasion of

13th Health Asia Conference, Karachi on 23rd August, 2017 where a

large number of local and international speakers were invited which

was appreciated a lot.

“Cardiac CT and MRI Workshop” was held at PC Hotel, Lahore from

5-7 October, 2017 where Senior Faculty from all over the country were

invited to attend the workshop with WORK STATIONS and Lectures

from qualified foreign team. The three day workshop was organized in

collaboration between GE & RSP.

7. ROS-RSP ACTIVITES

Radiation Oncology Society –Radiology Society of Pakistan (ROS-RSP) was

established on 26th December 2016 at 32nd Annual Radiology Conference

2016, Peshawar. The following office bearers were appointed as General

Secretary & Finance Secretary of this newly formed society:

President: Dr Naseem Begum

Secretary General: Dr Ahmed Nadeem Abbasi

Secretary Finance: Dr Tahir Mahmood

Later on Dr Bilal Mazhar Qureshi and Dr Asif Masood as Joint Secretaries

of ROS-RSP.

Activities of ROS-RSP (27 Dec 2016-Sep 2017)

The first meeting of ROS-RSP was held on the day of establishment in Peshawar which was attended by four newly appointed office bearers only. The future directions were discussed informally among four colleagues, viz, Drs Naseem Begum, A.Nadeem Abbasi, Tahir Mahmood & Bilal Mazhar Qureshi.

In January 2017 , Dr A.N.Abbasi, General Secretary received invitation for an invited talk in Best of ASTRO, organized by the Turkish Radiation Oncology Society in Istanbul on 16 & 17 January 2017.

An Opuscule was arranged at Arena, Karachi on 18th February 2017, which was attended by 32 participants representing all Radiation Oncology facilities of Karachi and colleagues from Nawabshah, Jamshoro & Larkana also actively participated.

President & General Secretary are now in the executive council of FARO (Federation of Asian of Radiation Oncologists).

In the forthcoming 33rd Annual Conference, RSP is kind enough to dedicate one full day (28 Oct 2017) to ROS-RSP.

ROS-RSP members are quite hopeful that this society will bring positive

changes in the clinical and academic areas of Radiation Oncology in the

country and region.

8. PRSP ACTIVITIES

1st Annual Paediatric Symposium was held on 13 May 2017 at Hospitality

Inn, Lahore where a large number of paediatric radiologists from Lahore

were present along with residents and general radiologists. It provided a

platform for better understanding and insight into the paediatric radiology.

9. IRSP ACTIVITIES

New office bearers of IRSP for next tenure were elected with mutual consent for next 2

years. The elected officials are

During 2017, IRSP was actively involved in academic activities during 2017

The annual scientific meeting of IRSP was held in Karachi in January 2017 over

2 days and included number of lectures and paper presentations.

Society participated in the annual meeting of “Pan Arab Interventional Radiology

Society’ (PAIRS), held in Dubai in March 2017. A special session was included in

the program titled “PAIRS meets IRSP” which included 4 presentations by

speakers from Pakistan.

Regular monthly vascular interventional meetings are held in Karachi which are

participated by interventional radiologist as well as vascular surgeons from all

over city.

IRSP in collaboration with HealthAsia invited Dr Luke Toh for a talk on “Vascular

access in children, how I do it and a team based approach” at Expo center

Karachi.

Department of radiology, AKUH in collaboration with IRSP invited guest speaker

Dr Luke Toh from Singapore for a talk on “Team based management of the

morbidly adherent placenta” and “injection sclerotherapy of venous and lymphatic

malformations” in August 2017

Department of radiology in collaboration with IRSP invited guest speaker Dr Asim

Shah from UK for a talk on “Embolization in emergencies” in September 2017.

IRSP has been invited for 2 presentations at “ Asian Conference on Tumor

Ablation” in Nov 2017, in Guangzhou, China. Dr Zahid Amin and Dr Imran Niazi

will be presenting. Dr Dr Kashif Shazlee and Dr Raza Sayani will be participating

as moderators.

Dr Muhammed Azeemuddin and Dr Najamuddin have been invited as speaker

and moderators respectively for annual meeting of Thailand IR Society in Nov

2017, being IRSP representatives and EC members of APSCVIR

VIC conference “Clinical Interventional Oncology Symposium” is being held in

Lahore on 21st October 2017 and is being endorsed by IRSP.

The date of next annual scientific meeting has been proposed as Jan 5th till 7th 2018.

The meeting is to be held in Islamabad.

PREPARATION OF 33rd ANNUAL RADIOLOGY

CONFERENCE, KARACHI.

As the Executive Council has rotated to Karachi for 2017, the

Annual Radiology Conference was also to be held at Karachi and

it was decided in the EC Meeting that the dates would be

27-29 October, 2017 at Moven Pick Hotel, Karachi. The

Conference will be under the supervision of Dr. Rashid Ahmed

(Patron Conference), Dr Syed Mahmood, Prof M.Nadeem Ahmad,

Dr.Muhammad Nafees, Dr. Mukhtiar Memon while Chairman

Scientific Committee will be Prof Zafar Sajjad.

Organizing the Annual Conference is not a simple task. It requires

preparation for many months, hard work of days & nights and team

work with highest level of tolerance and spirit for each other.

This year we have organized two days of Pre-Conference

workshops to give delegates extensive time to enhance their skills

by hands on workshop and lectures from the Senior Faculty of

Radiology.

This is followed by the Scientific Sessions of the Conference in

addition to the Inaugural and Musical Gala Night to provide a

balanced appetite to the delegates participating in the Conference.
