Why We Should Give

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” -Margaret Mead

“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” -Winston Churchill

“There is no greater joy under the sun than the joy of giving: giving of one’s time, energy, talent and money to help one’s fellow man.” -William H. Taylor

Why We Should Give

Today 980 million people live on less than one dollar a day, and the majority of the world’s absolute poor are female. Worldwide, women on average earn slightly more than 50 percent of what men earn. (1)

Two-thirds of the illiterate adults in the world are women and two-thirds of the children not in school today are girls. (2)

Women comprise 48% of the work force, yet less than 5% hold senior management positions & only 10% hold seats in the world’s parliaments. (3)

Every minute, a woman dies in childbirth. For every woman who dies, 20 or more experience serious complications. (4)

An estimated 7.3 million girls are living with HIV/AIDS compared with 4.5 million young men. (5)

Violence against women is a major cause of death and disability for women of reproductive age, ranking alongside cancer, and a greater cause of ill-health than traffic accidents and malaria combined. Acts of violence against women range from those resulting from domestic disputes to harmful practices embedded in societal or cultural mores. (6)
