Tagalog is an Austronesian language spoken by over 70 million people worldwide. It is one of the two official languages – the other being English – of the Philippines. If you are in need of our interpreter services, contact us at 605-367-7401.
C.A.R.E. Camp is coming to a close – and
what a summer it has been. From fishing
lessons at the Outdoor Campus, to exciting
weather experiments, to a CSI-style
fingerprinting project, the kids enrolled this
summer in C.A.R.E. Camp have had their
share of fun.
Live. Work. Play. Together.
That’s the mission of the MCC, and
C.A.R.E. Camp – which stands for cultural
appreciation, respect and education – puts
it into action.
The MCC’s science and math (STEM)
focused camp has grown in popularity over
the past decade. This summer we had
nearly 250 kids in our program. Students of
all backgrounds, kindergarten through fifth
grade, are encouraged to attend – and
C.A.R.E. is free.
C.A.R.E. also serves a serious purpose.
According to research from RAND
Education, students at the end of the
summer perform, on average, one month
behind where they left off in the spring.
C.A.R.E. Camp combats this by helping
kids retain the skills already learned in
school while building others.
We’re already looking forward to next
summer, but first we have to put a fitting
cap on this year’s final session – 60 kids
are depending on us to make learning fun.
Remember to register early for next
summer’s sessions. C.A.R.E. fills up fast!

The Coliseum is more popular than ever
before. The commercial kitchen is a big
draw for many events and is included in
the rental price. The Coliseum is larger
than most banquet facilities in the area
boasting 9,400 sq. ft. of space on the main
floor: enough for 1000+ theater seating
and 400+ banquet seating!

Unique Historic Event Venue Youth Program Fundraiser
Savory. Succulent. Scrumptious. Or just
plain yummy.
Any of these descriptors apply to the
annual smorgasbord on display at the
International Chef Cook-Off, which takes
over The Coliseum on Saturday, Dec. 3.
The event, now in its second year, pits
Sioux Falls’ finest in a head-to-head
culinary throw-down.
International Chef Cook-Off benefits our
After-School Programs, which consist of a
wide array of initiatives designed to meet
the needs of the community. The event
also benefits all who attend – just make
sure you come on an empty stomach.
The cook-off offers a chance to spotlight
our youth programs, including Froggy
Reads, Natives Count, Native Youth
Club, summer C.A.R.E Camps, Self-
Defense/Judo, and Ethnic Youth Day.
The International Chef Cook-Off also
serves a key fundraising role for the youth
programs, all of which are free.
The cook-off also lets us spotlight pillars
in our community who have helped
advance our mission: To provide
experiences and services for all people to
learn, celebrate and share through our
community’s cultural diversity.
What better way to do that than with
food?
Visit our website at www.sfmcc.org for
information on the International Chef Cook-
Off, as well as our many youth programs.

Sioux Falls was chosen as one of 15 cities to play host to Navy Week, giving area youth a
chance to see the men and women in uniform. The Navy visited our city July 18-24.
Our kiddos at C.A.R.E. Camp were fortunate enough to be one of the Navy’s stops along
the way. In fact, they came to the MCC three days – and Rear Admiral Bret Muilenberg
(bottom picture, back row on the right) even made an appearance. The kids enjoyed music and
games and had a chance to ask questions. It was a great opportunity for our campers.
Out with the old –
in with the new.
With our company
vans now sporting the
new logo, kids in our
youth programs get to
cruise around Sioux
Falls in style.
The vans at the MCC
see a lot of action, from
C.A.R.E Camp in the
summer to the after-
school programs the
rest of the year.
