Youth Now MarijuanaPrevention & Education

Youth Now is a campaign of the PREVENT! Coalition administered through ESD 112. It is funded through the Washington State Department of Health Dedicated Marijuana Account Funding.

• I-502 passed in 2012 legalizing retail marijuana effective July 2014• A percentage of the tax revenue earmarked to

fund youth marijuana prevention

• FY 2015: $90 million of tax revenue

• Estimated 2016 revenue: predicted $200+ million

• Washington Department of Health allocated $2.6 million per year to fund youth prevention in 9 regions

• ESD 112 awarded $247k per year for youth marijuana prevention

• School Based Youth Substance Use Prevention Services: Funded by Districts and Federal Block Grants

• Community Based Youth Substance Use Prevention done collaboratively with coalitions

FINDING THE YOUTH VOICEWe asked 1200 youth about marijuana. Here’s what they said:

• Youth want to hear other youth voices.

• Youth want unbiased facts

• “Just say no” language does not work for today’s youth

• Youth won’t tolerate perceived prejudice
