Treat your website like an employee

• Got a website?

• How much is it worth?

• Expense or investment?

• Marketing tool?

• Is your website working for you?

Is your website working like an employee?

source - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-20442666

@thinkzap #exposcotland

• It has a specific set of tasks to perform

• It needs a development plan to grow within the business

• It needs regular updates to stay top of mind

• It wants to be a valued member of the team

• And most of all, it wants to help your business grow

Why your website is like an employee:

@thinkzap #exposcotland

• It has no cut-off point. It can work 24/7.

• It can deal with more than one customer at a time

• It never sleeps, it doesn’t take holidays and it’s never sick

• And the best part…

Why your website is better than an employee:

The simple power of one a day

There are at least 200 working days a year. If you commit to doing a simple marketing item just once each day, at the end of the year you've built a mountain.

Enough molehills is all you need to have a mountain.

~ Seth Godin

@thinkzap #exposcotland

• It changes your mindset

• It’s easy to understand and follow

• Worry about that task on that day, that’s it

• It’s better to do one thing at a time

The simple power of one a day

But it gets even better. Seth goes on to explain:

@thinkzap #exposcotland

Here are some things you might try (don't do them all, just one of these once a day would change things for you)

• Send a handwritten and personal thank you note to a customer • Write a blog post about how someone is using your product or service • Research and post a short article about how something in your industry works • Introduce one colleague to another in a significant way that benefits both of them • Read the first three chapters of a business or other how-to book • Record a video that teaches your customers how to do something • Teach at least one of your employees a new skill • Go for a ten minute walk and come back with at least five written ideas on how to improve what

you offer the world • Change something on your website and record how it changes interactions • Help a non-profit in a significant way (make a fundraising call, do outreach) • Write or substantially edit a Wikipedia article • Find out something you didn't know about one of your employees or customers or co-workers

And you will be able to think of hundreds more…

Content Marketing 101Step 1 - Find keywords that are going to build the brand.

Step 2 - Look at the top 10 results for that keyword. What type of articles are written. Look at the related keywords at the bottom of the results and try and add them in to your article.

Step 3 - Create an article which is better than the rest. What does this mean?

Step 4 - Search through the top 10 page results for your chosen keyword. Create a list that you can reach out to.

Step 5 - Reach out to your list asking if they LIKE your article. If they say YES, which most do, you can ask them if they would share this on social media or link to it on their website. Reach out to the people in the article you have linked to, also.

Step 6 - If they say they will link to the article, write a 200-250 unique introduction for them.

Step 7 - Repeat and watch your article bring in valuable traffic.

These steps will put you ahead of the rest of bloggers and even some traditional SEO folk.
