June 2021… The Elephant in the room

Ladies, we know that this has come as a shock to many of you but for

those who have been a Lioness since the early nineties, it is not such a

surprise. The closure of Lioness Clubs has been in the background for

many years, LCI have just formalised it with a closing date.

Our Australian Lions were not made aware of this decision by LCI and

Council Chairperson Kim Forrest only found out during the ANZI

Forum in Jakarta in September. I would like to thank CC Kim for her

support of our Lioness Clubs in as much as trying to find ways for us to

maintain our history by suggesting a ‘special Lioness District’.

We would like to thank all of the clubs that have forwarded their

responses to the questions we sent and for all of your thoughts. These

have been forwarded to CC Kim so that she can see how our Lioness

members have responded to the news. The Council of Governor’s have

a meeting in January and I am sure our current situation will be

discussed.

In the meantime, ladies, please keep doing what you are doing, caring

for our communities, caring for each other and enjoy being a LIONESS.

3D printer for Library…

Lioness Club of Millicent was able to see the results of their latest donation

in action. The donation of $2000 was made to the Millicent Public Library,

towards the cost of a 3D printer, enabling the growth of the technological

learning capacity at the library.

The test printed object was of course a Lioness. How lovely.

Cent Sale benefits Hospital Auxiliary & Activity Centre…

President Carmel was so proud to hand over $1000 cheque being

proceed from our Annual Monster Cent sale to Lisa Milne from the

Proserpine Hospital Auxiliary. We know the money will be well spent

to assist our locals in their recoveries. President Carmel also presented a

$1000 cheque being half the proceeds from our Annual Cent sale to Jayne

Milne the Manager of Whitsunday Leisure Activity Centre. WLAC have

purchase music equipment, which allows visiting entertainers to come to the

centre and entertain the clients without have to drag a carload of Amps and

gear with them.

Outback bubs initiative helping Central West families…

A baby hamper initiative by Central West Hospital and Health Service is

proving a blessing for families experiencing personal crises across the

region.

Project coordinator and Social Worker Kathryn Willett has worked to

identify the best items and find local sources.

“Local families, individuals and businesses have jumped on board with

donations to fill the hampers which we are calling Outback Bub packs,

include clothes, baby care products, toys and essential household items to

a value of about $100.”

“We provide them to families and individuals who access our social

worker service for many reasons, whether that be domestic violence

situations, financial distress or medical complications both before and

after the birth of their child.”

Lions Children of Courage Awards…

We hosted our 18th Annual Lions Children of Courage awards,

recognising 16 amazing young people for their bravery and courage. The

children are nominated by local schools in the categories of special needs;

courageous act or deed, outstanding sporting achievement or sibling

recognition.

Each child is presented with a certificate, a medallion, a teddy bear and an

NRL backpack with goodies, i.e a football and drink bottle.

The Redcliffe Leagues Club has been our major sponsor since 2002 and

the NRL since 2013. We thank both of these organisations for their

ongoing support.

Since 2002 our club has been privileged to recognise 256 children as

Lions Children of Courage.

This is one of our favourite events on the calendar and it is well supported

by our sponsoring Lions Club of Redcliffe Central Inc.

Blast from the Past…

Hugging

Feels good, Dispels loneliness,

Overcomes fears, Opens doors to feelings,

Builds self-esteem, Fosters altruism,

Slows down aging.

Huggers stay younger longer,

Helps curb appetite.

We eat less when we are nourished by hugs-

When our arms are being wrapped around others.

Victorian Lioness Breakaway March 1997

Love this one, it will help to keep us young, saves dieting and makes us feel

good…. what more could we ask for.

Merry Christmas to all

of our hard-working

Lionesses. May you all

have a well-deserved

rest once your

Christmas projects are

completed.

Best wishes from…

Wilma, Lenore, Jo,

Cynthia, Beccy and Liz

Muswellbrook Lioness Club Prettiest Garden Award

Thank you to Betty, Bev and Denise for the wonderful time

we had driving around Muswellbrook on Thursday 10th

October 2019. It was a beautiful afternoon and I think we

all realised really how the drought is affecting everyone.

This year we have went with a drought tolerant garden that

still shows its beauty with it holding its own. The Winners

Trevor and Pam Anspach were over the moon and were

totally surprised with being awarded the Prettiest Garden

Award from the Muswellbrook Lioness Club. Thank you to

everyone involved.
