1. Draw an octagon: (any shape with 8 edges and 8 vertices)

2. Always, Sometimes or Never: “A number equally divided by 4 can also be divided by 2.”

Lesson Objective: To be able to draw and read line graphs.

Success Criteria:• I can create a line graph from a set of data.• I can determine simple information from the graph,

such as change over time and the trend.

Watch this if you didn’t yesterday:

These videos show you about line graphs

Recap A line graph is used to display information which changes over time. It is plotted on a graph as a series of points joined with straight lines.

Often this learning is linked with science, where children may carry out investigations which can then be presented as line graphs (for example, temperature changes over time).

The y-axis is the line on the graph that goes up and the x-axis is the line that goes across. They both meet.

Lesson 4

Time (mins)

Temperature

1. Can we draw a line

graph for this data?

2. How do you know?

3. How would you

organise the

information before

drawing the graph?

4. Would you draw a

table first?

Lesson 4Time (mins)

Temperature

1. What information

would you put in the

columns?

2. What time would you

assign to the start of

the experiment and

why?

3. Now we have organised

our information, what

do we do next?

4. How should we label

the axes?

??

???

1. What trends are clear

from the data?

2. Is it as you would

expect?

3. Why or why not?

4. What was the

approximate

temperature of the

water after 15 minutes?

5. After how many

minutes was the

temperature at 20 ºC?

Use your finger or ruler to follow along to read the graph

1. You will need to compare which may mean finding the difference by subtracting.

ANSWERS:

Chapter 5, Lesson 4

This will be clearer in your workbooks!

Don’t forget to understand the scale and what the smaller lines are.

These tasks are found in your MNP workbook pages 150-152.

Chapter 5, Lesson 4

Use your results table to complete the line graph

These tasks are found in your MNP workbook pages 150-152.

Chapter 5, Lesson 4

Compare the two line graphs

These tasks are found in your MNP workbook pages 150-152.
