WP2 main goals:• Establish an accurate picture of which appliances/utilisations we have today• Evaluate as far as possible the evolution of the stock• Evaluate the sensitivity of existing and new technology to gas quality change( green gases, LNG, etc..)

WP2 input Models & scenarios WP 3,4 etc.

Which gas applications and utilisations are compatiblewith the future gases?

WP2 work programme

2.5 Analysis of future potentials with focus on gas use in the industrial sector

FUTURE GAS WP2 JSC/DGC

2.1 Mapping of the Danish gas utilisations and evolution (main appliances, consumption, etc.)

2.2 Analysis of impact of (future) gas quality on appliances

2.3 Tests in laboratory (in support of tasks 2.2/2.4

2.4 Investigation of existing and upcoming solutions to broaden gas variations

2.3 Tests in laboratory (in support of task 2.2)

Pt 1: Test of combustion control on condensing boiler

Example of CO emissions for boilers without combustioncontrols

Impact of gas quality on air factor (boilers without CC)Nominal condition = 100% methane

Air & gas volumes areconstant

Not enough air when the Wobbeincreases (eg. LNG)

Too much air whenWobbe decreases(eg. Biomethane)

Increase of CO = safety issues

Boilers with combustion controls (eg ionisation)

The ionisation signal is used to adapt the air and the gas flow to maintain a stable combustion

Investigation results on the way with 4 other labs

Test of about 10 boilers

CH4 emissions depends highly on SS frequency

S U S T A I N A B L E G A S T E C H N O L O G Y

Lowering the modulation range diminishes the SS frequency

Conclusion

- WP2 is bringing input to other WPs:- Quantitative info: How many appliances, gas consumption, tolerance to gas

quality etc.- Qualitative info: Which technologies are on the way (e.g. hybrid boilers),

what are the technical solutions to increase tolerance to gas quality variations, etc.

- Synergy between the FG project & Marcogaz, IGU, EU harmonisation process, etc..

- A large share of the work programme is executed
