Selecting Consecutive Text

•Click at beginning of text to select, and then drag to

“mark” text

–Can increase or decrease selection holding mouse

button

–If using keyboard, position cursor, hold Shift, and

press arrow keys

•To select entire word, double-click the word.

•To select entire sentence, press and click in

sentence

•To select entire paragraph, triple-click in

paragraph

•To select all text:

– On Home tab, in Editing group, click Select, click Select All,

•To select multiple pieces of text, select first piece of text and then press to select each piece of text

•Select blocks of text using

– Position cursor at beginning of block of text to select, press Alt as you drag to bottom right of block

Using the Undo, Redo, and Repeat Commands

The Undo command reverses recent actions. To use the Undo command, click the Undo button on the Quick Access Toolbar.

The Redo command reverses an Undo action. The Repeat command repeats the most recent

action.

– In Quick Access Toolbar, click Undo, or

– Click button itself to undo last action or command

– Click arrow to undo up to last 100 consecutive actions or commands performed

Keep Text Only (T) Remove any existing formatting with original item and keep text only.

Set Default Paste Set how all pasted items of this type to appear.

Using the System Clipboard to Move and Copy Text

The Clipboard is a temporary storage place in the computer’s memory. To use the Clipboard, you cut or copy text.

The Clipboard can hold only one selection at a time.

The Clipboard is available to all the programs on your computer, and it is sometimes called the system Clipboard.

Using the Office Clipboard to Move and Copy Text

• The Office Clipboard is a special clipboard where you can collect up to 24 selections. It is available to Microsoft Office programs.

• Unlike the system Clipboard, which is available all the time, you must activate the Office Clipboard to use it. (Click on the dialog launcher)

• You can use the Office Clipboard to copy content between Office programs.

Moving Text Using Drag-and-Drop The easiest way to move text is to drag the text to the

new location. This is called drag-and-drop. This method is best used to move text short distances. Does not use Clipboard, leaving the contents of

Clipboard intact As you drag the selected text, a vertical line follows

the pointer indicating where the text will be positioned. A “ghost” cursor appears as a guide

To copy the text instead of moving it, press and hold while you drag it
