Wo - Komponisten
Deutsch macht Spaß mit Frau Boyle!
Wo – what?
A wo- compound is used like a pronoun, it replaces a noun.
A wo-compound is made of two parts: was + preposition.
A wo-compound can only be used if it has already been established what noun it represents.
Making a wo compound
Change ‘was’ to ‘wo’
Combine the wo+preposition to form one word.
Add an ‘r’ after the ‘wo’ if the preposition begins with a vowel.
Let’s make wo-compounds
was + vor =
was + über =
was + mit =
was + gegen =
was + für =
So what do they mean?
wovor
worüber
womit
wogegen
wofür
But don’t forget…
While you can make these with *most* prepositions, you can’t wait all – for example, OHNE.
Also very important: Wo-Compounds can NEVER refer to a person!
