ICLL Regulation 40 Minimum FreeboardsSummer freeboard(1). The minimum freeboard in summer shall be the freeboard derived from the tables in Regulation 28 as modified by the corrections in Regulations 27, as applicable, 2, !", !1, !2, !7, !8 and, if applicable, !.(2). The freeboard in salt #ater, as calculated in accordance #ith paragraph (1) of this Regulation, but #ithout the correction for dec$ line, as provided by Regulation !2, shall not be less than %" millimetres (2 inches). &or ships having in position 1 hatch#ays #ith covers #hich do not comply #ith the re'uirements of Regulations 1% (7), 1( or 2(, the freeboard shall be not less than 1%" millimetres (( inches). Tropical &reeboard(!). The minimum freeboard in the Tropical )one shall be the freeboard obtained by a deduction from the summer freeboard of one forty*eighth of the summer draught measured from the top of the $eel to the centre of the ring of the load line mar$.(+). The minimum freeboard in fresh #ater of unit density shall be obtained by deducting from the minimum freeboard in salt #ater1 2 3 +"T centimeters (inches) #here 2 4 displacement in salt #ater in tons at the summer load #aterline, T 4 tons per centimetre (inch) immersion in salt #ater at the summer load #aterline.(8). ,here the displacement at the summer load #aterline cannot be certified, the deduction shall be one forty*eighth of summer draught, measured from the top of the $eel to the centre of the ring of the load line mar$.
