 Winning Ways

Every inning starts at 0. It is not important if you have scored 100 in last innings.• Same way, in Business, it is not

important if you have done good in last years sales, order, targets or last months’ achievements. It starts at zero after that event is over.

What are the motivators:

• Success and fruits of success

• Keep changing Target Definition, after you have achieved targets

• Play with Different Goalposts

• Motivation is not only about winning against competition but yourself

You need to keep on winning

• Winning Every Day, Every Session, Every Hour

Not slipping on even 1% things

• Not only should you do Difficult things well, but also Simple/Small things well

• Create new challenges, search for opportunities

Looking Invincible- Body Language is important

• When you meet someone, you should have the look “Come, I am ready for you” and not “Here I am, tell me what you want”

• Should have “Wanting to do” (Inner force) and not “Having to do” (Outer force)

There should be continuous improvement and not intermittent.

• The day you cannot improve yourself, you retire.

• Love what you do, if you cannot do what you love

Managing Success can be difficult as success itself

• Competition is always ready and watching you, once you are in the lead.

• Success is a lousy teacher, It seduces smart people into thinking that they can’t lose.

• Teams can loose in spite of having winners as members

• A winning team v/s a Team of Winners

Why Teams Lose:

• Why teams go into slump

• What to avoid

• Do not take things for granted

• Do not fail to see the world changing

• Do not overlook weaknesses for too long

How do you know that the Team is Loosing:

• When the same people are performing

• Excuses, More excuses

• Feigning injury

• Losing Focus

Good teams come out of small defeats even stronger• Treat them as wake up calls

• Spare time to re-learn

• Do not try to do too much

• Spare time to innovate, experiment and introduce new systems.

Even good teams need to be reinforced from time to time

– Upgrading Skills

– Reinforcing Values

– Underline Commitments

– Creating new challenges

– Living in the present

– Maximise the presence

GOAL Setting:

• Share the dream all the way

• Inspiring a shared vision, creates a team bond.

• Everyone in the team must know of the vision and understand his/her role in it and his/her ability to contribute to the vision.

• Often the communication of the challenges and clarity of the same is a big motivator

Communication:

• The goal and the role

• Honesty

• Trust

Goals are dreams with deadlines:

• Assign timeframe to our dreams

• A goal could be out of reach but not out of sight.

The science of Goal Setting:

• No vagueness

• Skill v/s Preparation

• How badly do you want to win

• Imagery: relive in tight spots

Manage Goals:

• Break them down to smaller targets

• Smaller groups for sub-tasks

• Self Motivation (keeping the goals in focus)

• Find out what keeps you reminding of your goals

Why performance goals are as important as results goals:• 80% of the time you will win if you can do best

what you can.

• Do not spend wrongly about other person

• Performance goals help to do continuous improvements

• Regardless of opposition

• Work on microgoals

• Can train better

Co-ordination:

• No bad calling

• No bad throws

• No personal agendas

The strength of a chain is the strength of its weakest links

• Little agendas should not take the company away from goals

Team Building:

• One man cannot make a team

• Co-operation reduces risk and encourages innovation

• Common vision & shared reward

Interdepedance:• Good teams become great ones when

members must trust each other enough to omit “me’s” and talk about “we’s”

• Success tends to turn the “we’s” back to “me’s”– Install pride

– Create team glue

– Collective pride

– Collective exellence leads to collective pride

– Aligning individual goals with team goals

– Celebrate each other’s success

– Continuos improvement

– Pride for belonging to a winning team

Loyalty and the extended Family

• An unshakeable collective

• Team Glue:– How to find team glue ?
