Sophia Dembling “The introvert’s way; Living a quiet life in a noisy world.”

Three observations from the Gospel of John about who Jesus is

1. Jesus is God from eternity past.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.”

John 1:1-2

Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly I say to you before Abraham was born, I AM.”

John 8:58

“By using the timeless ‘I AM’ rather than ‘I was’ Jesus conveyed not only the idea of existence prior to Abraham, but timelessness – the very nature of God.”

Dr. Homer Kent

Three observations from the Gospel of John about who Jesus is

1. Jesus is God from eternity past.2. Jesus is God in the flesh.

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…”

John 1:14

The Bible says God revealed Himself…

> In creation - Rom. 1:18-21> In the OT Scriptures - 2 Tim. 3:15-17> Supremely and most clearly in Jesus

Christ – Heb. 1:1-3

“God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.

And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power...”

Hebrews 1:1-3

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…”

John 1:14

“Veiled in flesh the godhead see Hail the incarnate deity

Pleased as man with man to dwell Jesus our Immanuel”

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us...”

John 1:14

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of Grace and Truth.

John 1:14

Three observations from the Gospel of John about who Jesus is

1. Jesus is God from eternity past.2. Jesus is God in the flesh.3. Jesus is God in all His fullness.

John 1:16 “For of His fullness we have received…”

Col. 2:9 “For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form.”

The two attributes most closely connected with salvation are

GRACE and TRUTH.

-The Gospel is the gospel of God’s grace, Acts 20:24- We are justified as a gift by His grace, Rom. 3:24- We are blessed according to the riches of His grace,

Ephesians 1:7

- We are saved by grace, Ephesians 2:8-9- Grace was granted to us in Christ Jesus from all

eternity, 2 Timothy 1:9

- Grace upon grace upon grace upon grace……

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of Grace and Truth.”

John 1:14

“For the law was given through Moses; Grace and Truth were realized through Jesus Christ.”

John 1:14

“Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, that we may be justified by faith.”Galatians 3:24

Who is this JESUS?According to John, He is the only true God, pre-existent from eternity past, who entered our world in the flesh in all of God’s fullness.

“The Christian way is different: harder and easier. Christ says, 'Give me all. I don't want so much of your time and so much of your money and so much of your work: I want you.

No half-measures are any good. I don't want to cut off a branch here and a branch there, I want to have the whole tree down.

Hand over the whole natural self, all the desires which you think innocent, as well as the ones you think wicked—the whole outfit. I will give you a new self instead. I will give you Myself: my own will shall become yours. '”

C S Lewis, The Joyful Christian. p.179

.

“How deep the Father’s love for us How vast beyond all measure

That He should give His only SonTo make a wretch His treasure”

Stuart Townsend
