The Yazīdī religion includes elements of ancient Iranian religions as well as elements of Judaism, Nestorian Christianity, and Islam.

Yezidism is syncretistic: it combines elements of many faiths. Like Hindus, they believe in reincarnation. Like ancient Mithraists, they sacrifice bulls. They practise baptism, like Christians. When they pray they face the sun, like Zoroastrians. They profess to revile Islam, but there are strong links with Sufism, the mystical branch of Islam.

WHO IS THE PEACOCK ANGEL?

Tawsi Melek was, therefore, both the first form of the Supreme God and one of the Seven Great Angels

In the Meshefê Re,there is one passage that describes the Seven Great Angels and associates their creation with the seven days of Creation. 

Since Tawsi Melek embodied the power and wisdom of the Supreme God he was easily able to know and carry out His bidding. Six more Great Angels were then created to assist Tawsi Melek in his work.

Tawsi Melek was then dispatched to Earth to stop the planet’s quaking, as well as to endow it with beauty and abundance.

Yazidis believe that the world was created by Khuda, who entrusted it to seven angels/haft serr  led by one known as the Peacock Angel, also called Melek Taus. Melek Taus is the primary figure in the Yazidi belief system.

Melek Taus (King Peacock) was made the Archangel by God to rule over earth.This was his reward for NOT BOWING DOWN to Adam.

“The first day which He (the Supreme God) created was Sunday. On that day He created an angel whose name was ‘Azra’il. This is Melekê Taus, who is the greatest of all.On Monday He created the Angel Darda’il, who is Shaikh Hasan.On Tuesday He created the Angel Israfil, who is Shaikh Shams.On Wednesday He created the Angel Mika’il, who is Shaikh Abu Bakr.On Thursday He created the Angel Gibra’il, who is Sagad ad-Din.On Friday He created the Angel Shimna’il, who is Nasir ad-Din.On Saturday He created the Angel Nura’il, who is Yadin [Fakhr ad-Din].And God made Melekê Taus the greatest of them.”

SHEİKH HADİ belief system is rooted in the pre-Islamic tradition,

the figure credited as the founder of the Yazidi faith is Sheikh Adi ibn Musafir, a Sufi preacher who died in 1162.

He became a Sufi and moved to the Sinjara mountains for spiritual contemplation and the creation of his Sufi order, called the Adawiyya.

Considered to be an incarnation of Melek Taus, Sheikh Musafir's tomb near Mosul, Iraq, is the Yazidi's most important pilgrimage site.

In kitab al-cilwa was metioned that Malak tawus sent abd’ Tawus(Seikh Adi) for guide.

TEXTUAL TRADITIONS

Yazidi Sacred Books, the Masháafâ Reæ and Ketêbâ Jelwa

Kurmanji is the language of almost all the orally transmitted religious traditions of the Yazidis.

The Kitab al-Jilwa (Book of Enlightenment), written in an archaic Kurdish dialect, is believed to have been dictated by Sheikh 'Adî. Most of the text is concerned with the Peacock Angel, who speaks in the first person, vaunting his power and promising rewards to his devotees. Some parts of the book have been encrypted through substitution of letters.

PRACTICES

The Yazidis' cultural practices are observably Kurdish, and almost all speak Kurmanji

Yezidis have five prayers they repeat daily: Nivêja berîspêdê (the Dawn Prayer), Nivêja rojhilatinê (the Sunrise Prayer), Nivêja nîvro (the Noon Prayer), Nivêja êvarî (the Afternoon Prayer), Nivêja rojavabûnê (the Sunset Prayer).

However, most Yezidis only observe only two of these, the sunrise and sunset prayers. The Yezidi worshiper knows to turn his or her face toward the Sun during worship, but if they observe the noon prayer they face Lalish.

But ıt has become difficult to perfom these ceremonies after migration in Europe because of harmony and globalization and clutter of community. With all of these cause they made same reforms.

Reincarnation

The Yezidis’ belief in reincarnation Today, the Yezidis believe that they will continue to

reincarnate until they achieve a certain level of soul purity.

At that time they will be eligible to enter a heaven realm and exist there for an eternity.

There is also the unusual belief that if a Yezidi soul becomes very impure through the performance of evil actions while on Earth it is liable to reincarnate into the body of a person associated with a different religion, such as Islam.
