What does God want to see and hear when we worship… …according to Psalm 100? …according to Psalm 150?
When I’m thinking the way God wants me to think…
I see the church less like a museum
and more like a hospital .
I stop asking, “What is God doing for me ?”
and begin asking “What is God doing in this place ?”
I start thinking less like a guest
and more like host .
4th message in the Psalms series, by Pastor John Covell. CDs of this message (03/21/10) may be purchased at the Resource Center or listened to online at www.hcbc.com.
Below is a list of some comments often received by our own worship ministry. Can you relate? Think about and discuss these concerns in
light of the challenges from today’s message.
• Why do we sing so many songs in our services?
• The instruments are too loud!
• The instruments are too soft!
• The songs just repeat the same phrase over and over
• The songs are too “wordy”
• We should sing more hymns
• We should sing more new music
• Why do we stand so long?
• Why do some people raise their hands?
• We should be more joyful and excited
• We should be more somber and reflective
Memory Verse
Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; Give thanks to Him and praise His name.
For the LORD is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues through all generations.
(Psalm 100:4-5)
