What the Bible Teaches Obedience That Brings a Blessing
Matthew 28:18-20Mark 1:9-10John 3:23
Baptism is the first step every believer should take in his or
her walk with Christ
All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you;
and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Jesus commenced His ministry by being baptized
Jesus concluded His ministry by commanding baptism.
The Biblical Method of Baptism –Immersion
9 It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. Mark 1:9-11
Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. And they came and were baptized. John 3:22-23
They came to some water. And the eunuch said, "See, here is water. What
hinders me from being baptized?" 37 Then Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and
said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God." 38 So he commanded the chariot
to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and
he baptized him. 39 Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord
caught Philip away. Acts 8:36-39
The Biblical Meaning of Baptism -
Baptism pictures the saving work of
Jesus Christ
Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from
the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in
newness of life. Romans 6:4
Baptism is a picture of a death, a burial, and a resurrection.
3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received:
that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He
rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4
5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His
death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6
knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him.
Romans 6:5-6
We must be saved first, then baptized. This is called believer’s baptism.
Then they who gladly received His word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. Acts 2:41Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? Acts 10:47
31 They said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." 32 Then
they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.
33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their
stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized.
Acts 16:30-32
Baptism pictures not only His burial and resurrection but also
our glorification with Jesus
Baptism pictures the great doctrines of our faith: Calvary,
Easter, Pentecost, and the Second Coming
The Biblical Motive for Baptism -
A Master, a Message, and a Mandate
A master to confess, a message to convey,a mandate to complete.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you
Baptism does not save you; only the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus can save you
The Savior is waiting to enter your heart –
why don’t you let him come in?
