WE’RE GLAD YOU’RE HERE

Mark 16:15-16 And He said to them,

"Go into all the world and preach the gospel to

every creature. [16] He who believes and is

baptized will be saved; but he who does not

believe will be condemned.

• Many in the religious world today try to play down the importance of baptism

• One of the lessons in the gospel meeting last week was on “What God Has Joined together, Let Not Man Separate”

• One of the ways God shows the importance of baptism is in what he joins it to in the holy scriptures

WHAT GOD HAS JOINED TO BAPTISM

I. BAPTISM & SALVATION• Mark 16:16 He who believes and is

baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

• 1 Peter 3:21 There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

I. BAPTISM & SALVATION

• Titus 3:5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

II. BAPTISM and CIRCUMCISIONCol. 2:11-13 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, [12] buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. [13] and you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,

III. BAPTISM and BELIEF• Acts 2:41 Then those who gladly

received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.

• Acts 18:8 Then Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his household. and many of the Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized.

III. BAPTISM and BELIEF• Acts 8:12-13 But when they believed Philip

as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized. [13] Then Simon himself also believed; and when he was baptized he continued with Philip, and was amazed, seeing the miracles and signs which were done.

• Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.

IV. BAPTISM and FORGIVENESS OF SIN

• Acts 22:16 and now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.'

• Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

V. BAPTISM and A CLEAR CONSCIENCE

• 1 Peter 3:21 There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

VI. BAPTISM and THE NEW BIRTH• Romans 6:4 Therefore we were buried

with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

• Col. 2:12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.

• 1 Cor. 12:13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.

• Galatians 3:27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

IX. BAPTISM and ACCEPTING THE WILL OF GOD

• Luke 7:30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the will of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.

X. BAPTISM and DISCIPLESHIP

• Matthew 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

XI. BAPTISM and FULFILLING ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS

• Matthew 3:13-15 Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him. [14] and John tried to prevent Him, saying, "I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?" [15] But Jesus answered and said to him, "Permit it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness." Then he allowed Him.

XII. BAPTISM AND THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

• Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
