What do you see?
• Pick your favorite picture and tell us why.• Draw a picture of what the world is as
you see the world.• Write a descriptive paragraph about the
earth and what’s important on it.• Tell us about an animal you love.• Draw an animal you like.
Now here’s a question: How much of the world is water and how much of the world is
land? What do you think?
For water, color blue the number of squares that represent how much water covers the surface of the planet.
For land, color green and brown the number of squares that represent how much land covers the surface of the planet.
Then, if the glass stands for all of the places where organisms could live on the planet, how much of that living space do you think would be water? Fill in as much of the glass with blue as there would be water. (pretend you’re adding water from the sink )
What kind of machine is this?
Where do you think this machine is going?
What would it feel like to go into this machine?
Would you like to go? Practice by making yourself small!

The scientists went down in Alvin and saw this.
What do you think it is? What does it look like?
How do you think they felt? What do you think they did?

The scientists found…bacteria?!?
What is a bacteria?
Can you see one with your eyes?
Are bacteria alive?

Exploration and Discovery
What can you identify from this picture that you already know?
What do you see that’s alive?
What would you be trying to find?
What might the scientists be trying to find?
