The New York Times

The New York Times, 2013, on joint research from Harvard University and our department:

Tax incentives for pension savings have little effect on total savings.

Every Kroner that the Danish government spent on tax breaks had a negligible effect on total savings.

In contrast, policies that automatically saved a portion of a worker’s income (e.g. forced pension savings and labor market pension schemes) substantially increased total savings.

Researchers: Raj Chetty and John N. Friedman, Harvard, and Søren Leth-Petersen, Torben Heien Nielsen and Tore Olsen, University of Copenhagen
