The electrical supply of the future
The world’s primary energy needs of today are: 500 EJ
500EJ = 500.000.000.000.000.000.000 Joules
Can this extremely high annual energy requirement be supplied by the sun?

Assumption: The Earth’s radius: 6.367 km = 6,3·106 m
Solar constant: 1,367 W/m²

Energy irradiated to Earth per annum:
π · (6.3 · 106 m)2 · 1,367 Wm-2 · 8,760 · 3,600 s =
π · 40.5 · 1012 · 1.3 · 103 · 31.5 · 106 J =
