ReadingWe use:

Edmark Reading ProgramDoing WordsJourneys Reading Program by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (district adopted curriculum)

We modify these program to meet your child’s individual needsWe do whole group, small group, and oral reading lessonsWe use reading centers to work on specific skills that support students to become better readers

Math We use

Scott Foresman (district adopted curriculum) Illuminations (curriculum from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics) Touch MathExcel Math

Like reading, we modify the lessons to meet the students’ individual needsWe do small group, whole group, and math centers

WritingWe do daily writingWe use Handwriting Without Tears to teach handwriting skillsWe have weekly spelling tests (Hazel)Thematic units and Fun Fridays include writing activitiesTactile centers that help students learn how to write letters, numbers, and spelling words

Fun FridaysFun Fridays include both classesThey usually consist of Science, Social Studies, Language and/or Math projectsThey also include arts and crafts, and cooking

Quarterly Progress Reports

Quarterly progress reports are sent home at the end of each quarter.

These reports address your child’s progress toward his/her IEP goals.

IEPsIEPs are reviewed once a yearProgress reports go home each quarter Each teacher continually assesses students on the IEP goalsWe target IEP goals and objectives using our modified reading, writing, and math programs

DisciplineMs. Follet uses a daily sticker chart where students earn stickers for positive behavior and a “sad” face for negative behavior. It aligns with our daily schedule. Mrs. Hazel uses classroom points (positive and negative). Students can cash earned points at the end of the day and shop on Friday.Fun Friday is used as a reward for behavior and completed work

Each classroom has students that will be mainstreamed for other things based on individual needs

HomeworkMs. Hazel’s Class - The homework packet goes home every Friday and is due the following Thursday. The packet usually consists of: Math (Excel Math/Addition/Subtraction/Multiplication) Edmark, Personal Information, Reading Log, and Spelling.

Ms. Follet’s class – Homework will be sent home on an individual basis. Homework will only be sent home is the student can complete with minimal support. If you would like your student to have homework, that can also be arranged.

Parental InvolvementWe encourage parent participation through helping your child with his/her homework assignments, reading daily with your child, etc.We need volunteers for special school events such as Field Day, Water Day, Running Club races, and Turkey Trot.

Wish ListThroughout the year, we have different celebrations and we always appreciate your contributionsWe are always in need of boxes of tissue, Clorox wipes, sanitizer, treasure box items (small trinkets/toys), and healthy snacksWe are grateful for anything else you can donate (jump ropes, recess balls, baby wipes, etc.)

AttendancePlease drop students off no earlier than 7:50 AMStudents are supervised starting at 7:50AM

They should not be on campus before that time

Do NOT pull into the bus zone to drop off and pick up students
