Starting School

• Children will start half days either am or pm from Monday 2nd

September(See your welcome letter). All children will attend school full time from Monday 16th

September.

• Leicestershire LA has produced a booklet about school readiness that everyone should have received.

• This outlines ways in which you can help your child get ready for school.

What is the Early Years Foundation Stage?

• It is based on the recognition that children learn best through play and active learning.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Making and building friendships.

Learning how to behave in different situations.

Developing self confidence and independence.

The areas of learning are as listed below:-

Physical Development

• Learn to dress and undress.• Look after their own needs.• Develop co-ordination.• Handle equipment and tools including

The first few weeks

We will find out what the children already know and can do and use this information to help us develop an individual learning programmefor each child. We want children to enjoy school.

Parents EveningDuring the first term you will be invited to see the teacher to discuss how your child has settled in and their progress so far.

School dinners

Hot dinners – all children are entitled to a choice of free school meal.

Packed lunches – your child may prefer to bring a packed lunch in a named box/bag. No fizzy drinks please.

School Uniform

1. Boys 2. School sweatshirt 3. White shirt or polo

top 4. Plain black trousers 5. Black or white socks 6. Plain black slip on

shoes.7. No boots or trainers

Girls School sweatshirt/cardigan White shirt, blouse or polo top Plain black or charcoal trousers, knee length skirt, pinafore or dress. Black, navy or white socks/tights. Plain black slip on shoes low heel.No trainers, boots, crocs or sling

back shoes.

A water proof coat for outdoors.

PD – all children need a PE kit –black shorts and White T- shirtas well as Plimsolls –

ALL NAMED PLEASE

We love creative activities! Some times we get messy!

Jewellery

Pupils may wear a watch, gold or silver stud earrings.

No jewellery is permitted for P.E including earrings.

P.E Kit

Indoor Kit

Blue T shirt with logo or plain white t shirt with round neck.

Plain black or navy shorts

Flat trainers or plimsolls.

Outdoor Kit

Plain black or navy jogging bottoms

Plain black or navy sweatshirt or school hoodie.

Flat trainers.

School Uniform Policy

Medical/Other Matters•Any absence requires a note or telephone call explaining why.

•Any medicines can only be administered by prior arrangement with the office.

•If your child requires a change of clothes they should be returned clean to school.

•Head lice are common! Please check regularly and treat as recommended.

•Snacks are provided at morning break. Milk until the child’s 5th

birthday.

•If your child has a medical problem please talk to a member of staff.

•If your child has a bump or accident at school that has required 1st aid the school will provide a note in your child’s book bag.

Parent and School Partnership

Other matters…• It is useful if your child can dress and undress, and is able to go

to the toilet.

• It is useful to recognise/ write their first name in lower case.

• Book bags will be given out in the first few weeks and should be returned every day.

• All letters/information will go home in your child’s book bag. (Check your child’s bag) We also need your email etc for parent mail/text.

• Golden Guest(Bendy Blue Boy) – can spend the weekend when your child gets Golden child for achievement.

Shoe boxes…• Could you decorate a small shoe box

and fill it with a few photographs, drawings or things of importance for your child to share in the first few weeks of school.
