Experiment: To conduct an experiment, two or more groups of something are compared to each other. One group, the control group, is not changed in any way during the experiment. The experimental group is changed in some way (see Unit 7 Discussion Activity).

Why are surveys useful if they are not as accurate as experiments?

Observation: Researchers sometimes watch people in their natural environments and keep score of certain behaviors they see. This is used to form ideas about typical human behaviors in certain situations or environments (see Unit 2 Discussion Activity).
