FROM THE PRINCIPAL … Esther Wood
Next term we will be saying farewell to Mrs
Penman as she moves to Portarlington, awaits the
arrival of her baby and moves into her new home.
It is indeed a very exciting time for Mrs Penman
and her husband as they embark on this next phase
of their lives. Mrs Penman has been an
outstanding teaching practitioner who has served
this community in every way to the highest level
and we will all miss her dreadfully. We wish her
all the very best and look forward to next year
when she will visit us.
Mrs Green’s class will move from where it is
now to the music room next term (much more
room) and Mr Castiglioni will relocate from the
music room to the “old” hall for most of his
sessions. It was thought that the most eastern room
in the main building would have been repaired by
this stage to accommodate the Year 3/4G students.
Unfortunately this did not occur.
We are all still quite buoyed by the school musical
production last week. Congratulations once
again to Mrs Whiteoak and Elise Colgrave for
the joint “sister act” in the school production.
PAR EXCELLENCE!
To the students – you were all marvellous and the
parents who did so much to ensure the production
was the success it was – again another “Thank
you”. To all the staff from practising the class
items, ticket organisation, staff performance,
coaching of the students, welcoming at the front of
door, ushering, photography, the organising of
costumes, music, lighting, programmes and much
more – the many hours spent were well rewarded
by the students’ performance. When we see all
the students perform on stage, we all share in the
joy and wonder of what they have learnt and can
now do. Mrs de Kretser, Mrs Sinis and Mrs
Skatharoudis had a wonderful time identifying
their charges of previous years. ….and so the
strong connection is strengthened within the
community from three-year kindergarten to Year
Six.
On behalf of staff I wish you all a safe, happy and
restful break …… a time to recharge the batteries.
The end of year and Christmas are just around the
corner, so make the most of this opportunity to
have a break from the hustle and bustle of
everyday school routine (if you can).
Have a wonderful time. Look forward to seeing
you on Monday 7th
October!
NO ASSEMBLY TOMORROW
Due to the early dismissal time of 2.30pm there
will be no assembly tomorrow, Friday 20th
September.
PLEASE WATCH OVER OUR SCHOOL
DURING THE BREAK
If you see any incident that impacts on the
safety or wellbeing of staff, students or visitors
in or around schools, especially after school
hours, you can alert Emergency Management
by phoning 95896266 (24 hour service). Of
course, if what you see is criminal behaviour,
call the police on 000.
In order to keep our school secure it is incumbent
upon us all to be vigilant at all times. Unwanted
visitors to the school should be reported to the
police immediately. We employ the services of a
security company to patrol the school at night
however it is clear that this is not sufficient.
Please help us to keep our school safe from
vandalism. Report intruders to the police. No
one should be on the school property when the
school is not operating.
Thank you.
PREP 2014 TRANSITION

KINDERGARTEN BUILDING UPDATE
The extension to the kindergarten is well
underway with the frame constructed.
We are most fortunate that there will be minimal
disruption to this year’s programme. Next year the
four-year old sessions will be conducted for
fifteen hours a week in total – five hours each day
for three days. The three-year old sessions will be
conducted for five hours a week, for two and a
half hours for two days.
CLASS FORMATION
Last opportunity
The process for student placement for 2014 has
commenced. We aim to have well-balanced
classes of students that take into account each
student’s social, emotional and academic
development and friendship groups.
Class compositions are based on Level groupings
(Level One – Prep; Level Two – Grades One and
two; Level Three – Grades Three and Four and
Level Four – Grades Five and Six.)
We endeavour to make optimum use of prior
knowledge teachers, parents and others have of
each student prior to class placement.
This is a lengthy process and entails much
discussion and sharing of information between
staff.
If there is any information you consider
important for the school to be aware of, please
put it in writing and return to me before
Monday 7th
October, 2013.
Consideration beyond this date will
not be considered.

After School Care Program
Program Update 19.09. 2013
Hi Everyone!
I'd just like to say a huge thank you for a fantastic term! We've had a lot of new people join our
group and it's great to see that everyone is getting a long and making our new people feel
welcome. It's also fantastic to hear that the children are really enjoying coming to the program and
sometimes it's even hard to get them to go home at the end of the day. I'm really looking forward
to seeing you all when we come back from break and I can't wait to hear about everything that
you've gotten up to over the holidays.
I'd also like to remind parents that we will be open on the last day of term from 2:30pm until 6pm.
Once again, do ask that you try to book in advance as the last day of term is usually quite busy.
Walk ins are never turned away but it is handy to know our numbers by the day before.
Have a great holiday :)
