Choose some of the investigations below to complete:

1. Investigate how many of each letter of the alphabet there is in the extract. How will you record this? In a table, a bar chart, a line graph or another way? You decide.

2. Choose your favourite part of your own favourite book and repeat. Make sure the extract has 178 words to make your investigation fair! What are the similarities/differences? What are the most popular/least popular letters? Why might this be?

3. Instead of looking at words and letters, try counting the different types of punctuation and record in a format appropriate. Perhaps predict which type of punctuation will be most/least used.

We have included some graph/squared paper for you to record your results. As a challenge, perhaps you could create a pie chart. Have a read through this webpage for instructions. Have fun!https://www.mathsisfun.com/data/pie-charts.html
