Dear Parishioners,
Advent is a favorite season for many of the faithful because it is a season of anticipation about the birth of our Savior at Christmas
and because it is a season of Joy as we await the coming of Christ in glory and the completion of salvation history. Throughout this holy season we will recall through the scriptures the hope of the people Israel in the coming of the Messiah and the birth of Jesus as Savior of all people.
Yet our anticipation and joy is abbreviated this year because Christmas falls on a Monday this year. The Fourth Sunday of Advent last less than one day because the Christmas Season begins in the evening. While we may think we have plenty of time to prepare before Christmas, there really is not too much time this year.
We begin this holy season in church and at home lighting the first purple candle on our Advent wreath. Please feel free to use the “Advent Blessing and Prayers” bulletin insert everyday. Our Giving Tree is in the Gathering Space and it is a wonderful chance for everyone to make Christmas brighter for those who are in need and without a doubt, bring joy to both the giver and receiver of these beautiful gifts.
Tonight the annual “Lessons and Carols” Service at Cathedral Seminary Residence in Douglaston begins at 7:00 PM in the seminary chapel. All are invited to this sacred evening featuring the music and voices of the seminary choir and our own choirs including the handbell choir and adult choir. Delicious desserts will be offered in the dining room following the service.
Then this Saturday, December 9th our “Christmas Carol Procession” will start at 6:30 PM in front of the gymnasium on 258th Street with the lighting of our own Rockefeller Center Christmas tree. We will go Christmas caroling through the neighborhood bringing the message of Christ’s Birth to friends and neighbors and this year’s parade route will bring up to the front door of the New Glen Oaks Nursing Home and we hope to bring glad tidings to the residents there.
Next Sunday, December 10th the Christmas crafts made by the Arts and Crafts Group will be on sale and help to decorate your home with cheer and hope as well as offer unique Christmas gifts for family and friends. Stop into Bishop Chappetto Hall after Mass.
Lastly, Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy is ready to give away $10,000.00 in cash prizes with its Christmas Raffle Drawing on Wednesday, December 13th. Extra raffle sheets are on the tables in the Gathering Space and tickets are $10.00 each or three tickets for $25.00. Feel free to distribute the raffle sheet to family and friends and start dreaming of a green Christmas!
Together let us make this Advent the best one ever!

VOCATIONS THOUGHT
VOCATIONS REFLECTION: SAINT THÉRÈSE LISTENS TO THE LORD
The Parish Vocations Committee would like to offer
the following reflection of Saint Thérèse of
Lisieux: "Jesus has no need of books or teachers to
instruct souls. As the Teacher of teachers, He teaches
without the noise of words. I have never heard Him
speak, but I feel that He is with me. At every
moment, He guides me and inspires in me what I
ought to say or do. I discover, just at the moment
when I need them, understandings that I hadn't yet
seen. Most often it's not during my times of prayer
that they're the most abundant, but rather in the midst
of the occupation of my day."
