Newsletter
July and August 2017
Issue
Welcome to the first Walsall Neighbourhood Policing Unit (NPU) Newsletter. This Newsletter aims to provide you, the communities of Walsall, with an understanding and insight into some of the work being undertaken by your local Neighbourhood Teams and other policing activity across the Borough.
With the school holidays upon us, we have been working with partners, preparing our partnership and policing response to the anticipated demand on services. You can follow some of our policing activity through #WalsallSummer.
How can you become more involved in supporting your local community? Both police and partners are keen to work with local communities to increase community participation in activities that will enhance community cohesion and pride. If you want to know what is happening within your area, then sign up to WMNow – a free community messaging service which is part of West Midlands Police’s ongoing commitment to keeping in touch with our local residents. Junior PCSO’s Take To The Streets.
Members of Willenhall Neighbourhood Policing Team have joined up with staff at
Pool Hayes primary to re-launch a Junior PCSO scheme in a bid to tackle parking
problems in nearby streets.
Willenhall Police Community Support Officer Suki Lally said, “three pupils go out
with a member of staff and take the registration numbers of illegally or
inconsiderately parked vehicles and the school then send out a warning letter. If
the same vehicle offends again the school
inform us and we then send out a warning
letter . The school sent a letter explaining
the scheme before it started and there has
already been an
improvement in Bridgnorth Grove, where
the school’s main gates are situated.
“We intend rolling out the Junior PCSO
scheme to other schools in Willenhall in
the near future.”
If you are interested in setting up a Junior
PCSO scheme at your school then con-
tact your local neighbourhood policing
team by dialling 101.

Partnerships Officers Engage with Deaf Students
Working in partnership with Walsall College, officers from Walsall Police have
recently delivered a series of inputs to a potentially vulnerable group of deaf
students, discussing how they may avoid coming to harm.
PC Simon Bradley, who helped set up the sessions, said, “My colleague PC
James Lander and I delivered an input introducing our roles within the police
and offering a range of subjects for future sessions. At the students’
instigation, the second session saw us delivering a blended input covering hate
crime and radicalisation. The students engaged very well, asking very interest-
ing questions and raising their own points of view.
“As an organisation West Midlands Police is committed to protecting
vulnerable members of society.”
Do you know of a group of young (or ‘young at heart’) people who may benefit
from a discussion with police officers. If so, let us know! Call PC Simon Brad-
ley on 101, extension 889 6325.
