AVPN,orVirtualPrivateNetwork,isatechnologythatcreatesanencryptedconnectionfromyourdeviceintoanothernetwork.Inthiscase,thisencryptedconnectionisbeingestablishedbetweenyourdeviceandtheWilliam&Marynetwork.ByestablishingaconnectiontotheWilliam&Marynetwork,youshouldbeabletoaccessallcollegeresources,includingthosehostedbyGoogle,thatyoumaynototherwisebeabletoaccess.GlobalProtectistheVPNsoftwareofferedbyWilliam&Mary.

Whatistwofactorauthentication?WhydoIneedthis?

Authenticationisverifyinganindividualiswhotheysaytheyare.Inmostcases,thisinvolvesausernameandpassword.Twofactorauthenticationrequiresnotonlyapasswordbutsomethingelsetheuserwouldhave,inthiscase,amobilephoneapp.TheCollegeofWilliamandMaryrequirestheuseoftwofactorauthenticationtoaccessthecollege’sVPN.

DirectionsforsettingupandaccessingVPNusingtwofactorauthentication

1. Download“Duo”,thetwofactorapp,fromtheAppleorAndroidstore.

2. SignupforatwofactorDuoaccountonWilliamandMary’swebsitehttps://2f.wm.edu/

Usingyourcampusaccount,signupforDuoserviceasshownbelow.

• ConnecttothewebsiteandclickLogintoW&M

• ClickStartSetup

• Identifythedeviceyouwillusefortwo-factorauthenticationandselectcontinue.

• Ifyouselected“MobilePhone”,enteryourphonenumber.Followsimilardirectionsforotherdevices.

• Afterenteringyourphonenumber,selectthetypeofdeviceandthenclickContinue.

• OnceyouhaveinstalledtheDuoMobileapp(completedinstep1),click“IhaveDuoMobileinstalled”

• Onyourphoneormobiledevice,opentheDuoappandproceedtoactivateyouraccountbyclickingAddAccountandthenscanningtheQRcodeonthescreen.Eachcodeisuniquesobesuretoonlyscanyourcode.

• Congratulations,youhavesuccessfullysignedupfortheDuomobileservice.Checktheboxtoautomaticallysendalerts,select“DuoPush”andthenpressSavetocompletethissetup.

3. DownloadandinstalltheGlobalProtectVPNsoftwarefromthewebsitehttps://gp.wm.edu/• Loginwithyourcampususernameandpassword

• Basedonyouroperatingsystem(WindowsorMac),downloadthecorrectsoftwareandruntheinstaller.

• FollowtheinstalldirectionsoftheVPNsoftwarebyfollowingthewizardasshownbelow

4. ConnecttotheWilliam&MaryVPNusingGlobalProtect• LaunchtheGlobalProtectsoftwareyoujustinstalledinthepreviousstep.

• EnterthefollowinginformationasshownbelowandthenclickConnect:Portal:gp.wm.eduusername:(yourWilliam&Marycampususername)Password:(yourWilliam&Marycampuspassword)

• Inthisstep,youmustselectamethodofsendingthesecondauthenticationtoyourphone.Themostdirectmethodistoenter1intheboxandclickOK.

• UponclickingOK,yourphone’sDuoappwillbesentanotification,indicatingsomeonewithyouraccountisattemptingtoaccessWilliam&Mary’sVPNconnection.PressApprovetoverifyyouareattemptingtoconnecttotheVPN.

• OnceyouclickApprove,yourVPNconnectionwillbeestablished.Atthispoint,youshouldbeabletoestablishconnectionstoallWilliam&Marycollegeresources,includingthosehostedbyGoogle.YouareabletoconfirmyourVPNconnectionbyviewingtheiconinthetaskbarinthelowerrightcornerofyourWindowscomputer.
