The Putnam county Veterans Service Agency Situation Report
The Row of Honor that has lined the shore of Lake Gleneida in Carmel every Me-morial Day and Veterans Day for nearly a decade was installed Wednesday to recognize and give thanks to our everyday heroes – the healthcare workers and first responders who put themselves at risk to help fight the COVID-19 outbreak, Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell said: “Even in the best of times it is not easy to leave your family and rush out to take care of sick people, or answer an emergency call, or respond to a fire,” Odell said. “But now, when caring for others can put their own health in peril, our first responders and healthcare workers are nothing short of heroic. We recognize their bravery and want to say ‘Thank you.’” A single line of flags and a “God Bless America” banner will grace the lakefront from now until Memorial Day to remind passersby of the tremendous sacrifice our healthcare workers and first responders are making for the public good. Come Memorial Day, the traditional three rows of flags will be completed to in-clude veterans in the recognition. Healthcare workers are our unsung heroes, said Putnam County Health Depart-ment Commissioner Michael Nesheiwat, MD. “We are very fortunate to have a healthcare community that is deeply com-mitted to serving the public,” Dr. Nesheiwat said. “They always deserve our re-spect and thanks. I’m glad we can honor them with such a public display.” Our first responders act without hesitation to help others, and they always have, said Bureau of Emergency Services Commissioner Ken Clair. “Emergency responders are our first line of defense against this invisible enemy, coronavirus,” Clair said. “This did not come with the job description, but they have all stepped up. Let the flags fly high in their honor.”

Volume 10 Issue 6
Dear Diary,
OK Ok I know that I should
not talk about this virus and
everything that surrounds it
to the “Horse Skeptic Diary”
because it has nothing to do
with the Equus Effect but I
am going to do it anyway.
Diary I am pissed. I am
pissed because this virus is
turning our lives upside down.
Hell I am not even suppose to
be in the office. Shhhhhhhhh
lets not tell anyone that I
Diary of a

came in it will be our little
secret.
We have to hope that all of the
people we are concerned with
are being carful and doing this
social distancing. The problem is
the slobs who throw their
rubber gloves, face masks and
anti bacterial wipes on the
ground after they leave the
grocery store. Another thing
diary while I am on my “high
horse” do these people who are
using these items realize that
people like my daughter, an ER
nurse, have a shortage of these
items that people who do not
need them are wasting them.
If you have masks or gloves
give them to a first responder.
Well Diary I am now off my high
horse.
Boredom is a problem. I have used DUO on my phone
to talk with family that is quarantined and friends
that I miss. For people with kids at home why not
help them help you with dinner. A pizza place in
Brewster is offering pizza kits that have all the
fixings to make a homemade pizza in the luxury of
your home. No Diary telling the readers that the
name of the place is Aversano’s would not be proper.
Keep a journal of you confinement. Someday it may
nice to show your grandchildren or great grandkids
Say a family prayer each morning or if you have
children start the day with the Pledge of Allegiance.
Call and friend or relative, especially if they are
elderly or sick, ask them how they are doing.
Our Vietnam Veterans will be sitting at home for
Vietnam Veterans Day. So make a effort to thank a
Vietnam Veteran for their service.
There is no magic that is going to make this tragedy
disappear. Make the best of it! Try to smile every
day. Wash your hands and stay safe.
I wish you horses!
May the horse be with you!
Karl
