GOOD MORNING
I’ve been listening to podcasts, catching up with my favorite football team before the season starts. They keep talking about all the new coaches they hired who used to be star NFL players. When hiring a former player, you hope they can teach the current guys some of the tricks or techniques that made them great players. At the pro level. it can be hard to find a coach the players listen to. But if you find one, the players listen and make changes – even if the return isn’t obvious at first. They change their technique even if it is awkward and initially causes their play to look awkward. When the respected coach tells them to sacrifice for the
sake of team, they do it.
Why do they do all this? Because the players believe the coach knows better than they do what it takes to make them great. When you truly believe in a person’s authority, you follow that person in complete obedience. The player who does not truly believe in his coach, does not fully follow his instruction. He may believe good things about the coach – that they were a star in their own time – but believing certain information and believing in someone's authority are
two different things.
Those who don’t just believe good things about Jesus but actually believe not only the facts about his deity, atoning death, and resurrection, also believe in His right to direct their lives. If Jesus tells you to help the poor, you help the poor. If he tells you to love your neighbor as yourself, you
love your neighbor. True believers follow.
In Him,
Luke Bower
